Sweet Conversations: Luv U x3

I love pink and gray together, especially when it’s a lively (but not obnoxious) shade of pink, like Polished Pink.

If you saw this card on the Stamp Review Crew Sweet Conversations blog hop earlier this week, you read that I “dyed” the ribbon by stamping Polished Pink (on both sides of the ribbon) with a heavily patterned stamp. I used the smallest flower image from Flowing Flowers for that, but any image will do as long as there’s not a lot of empty space. I secure each end of the ribbon to my Grid Paper with sticky notes to keep the ribbon flat, then stamp. After a few minutes of drying, I flip the ribbon over and repeat on the other side. Even this thin, polyester (?) ribbon takes some time to dry. Trust me, you’ll be sorry if you rush!

Lucky for me that Sweet Conversations is a photopolymer stamp set — it made lining up the lines on the tags a cinch (I stamped the image of the lines twice per tag).

Do you have cards for Valentine’s Day in your stash?

Here’s the perfect place for them! (See a pdf version of the image below here.) Let’s bless others with our creative efforts — if you want to drop off your cards at my house, I will see that they get to Rep. Keicher’s office. Note the February 7 deadline!

Not local? Suggest this idea to your State Senator and Representative!

Marvelous Masks Class: Here’s what you’ll get!

I’m having a lot of fun getting ready for the first-ever Marvelous Masks Class, with three sessions held the weekend of February 4-5 in my DeKalb home. Stampers have asked me questions about this new class, and here are the answers!

What’s included in the registration fee? Here you see it — or most of it:

  • Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks (#158142) and Celebrating You stamp set (#158028).
  • A Classic ink pad of your choice (suitable for flowers; a color that can be used in a light or dark shade) and ink refill (same color).
  • One (individual) Blending Brush, Sponge Dauber (not pictured), and Stampin’ Spritzer.
  • A sample of Matte Finish Embossing Paste and spreading tool (neither pictured).
  • A FREE January-February 2022 Sale-A-Bration item of your choice ($50 level). Want one of the $100 level Sale-A-Bration items? Add $50 in product to your registration.
  • Materials for eight (8) cards with envelopes, designed to be completed at home (in case we run out of time) with the technique samples you prepare in class.
  • Class instruction from me and a handout with notes and color illustrations.

Why is this called a “class”? A class is a small-group format that allows me to present techniques that you will practice. It is not like a camp, where your goal is to produce finished projects.

What will I learn? You’ll learn about and practice these topics:

  • Basic mask tips
  • Applying color with Blending Brush, Sponge Dauber, and Stampin’ Spritzer
  • Ombre backgrounds
  • Double masking
  • 2-step Layering
  • Embossing Paste and tinted Embossing Paste

Is this an open house? No, we’ll start at the same time and you’ll stay in the same place for the entire class.

How do I register? Complete and mail the form in this brochure or register online at the Heartfelt Inkspiration blog here. Your registration of $60.00 must be received by Tuesday, January 25. Note that registration is limited to only 8 stampers for each session and will be closed before January 25 if capacity is reached.

Sweet Conversations: Happy

I hope you had a good time yesterday following the Stamp Review Crew blog hop featuring Sweet Conversations! Unless a blog post is removed, you’ll always be able to hop from blog to blog following the links you see in the SRC post, above, or on someone’s site. Here, click the Stamp Review Crew widget, at right, to get to the blog with all the past hops.

Black and white plus a pop (or two) of color is a winning combination, don’t you think? The colors on this card are not correct on my monitor, but so often when I see the post after it’s been published, the colors are accurate. Color me confused!

I’ve seen many cards over the years that use a graphic B&W stripe against something floral or feminine. I increased the contrast with a background panel embossed in delicate flowers, planning ahead so the embossed heart would be hidden behind the focal panel. This Boquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder doesn’t sound like more than, well, an embossing folder — but click below and note that it comes with nine dies. Pretty cool product!

Over the years, I’ve learned to create more pieces than I need for a card design experiment. When things don’t turn out as I’ve envisioned, I have more to play with and don’t need to start from scratch. But since this card was “first-time final,” I used some of the extra hearts inside the card (in the top left and bottom right corners).

Stamp Review Crew: Sweet Conversations

I am so happy to be back with the Stamp Review Crew! We are a group of international Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who want to show you how much you can do with one stamp set. We will feature one set with each blog hop (scheduled for the first and third Monday of each month), and each stop on the hop will show you a different idea using that set!

This hop features Sweet Conversations, a set of 17 photopolymer stamps (with coordinating dies available) from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog.

157618 Sweet Conversations

The blogger on the hop before me is Holly Krautkremer at Rubber Redneck — Holly coordinates the Stamp Review Hops, and I am so grateful! (Remember that you can click on the banner at the top of this post to see a list of all hop participants.)

My cards today use some of my favorite design elements. This first one uses contrast — the strong stripes against the delicate Flirty Flamingo and Petal Pink hearts and embossed flowers:

No embellishments are needed for this sophisticated card of love and friendship, but my next card is more playful and called for some fun touches. The design elements I used are repetition (always love a triplet!) and, again, contrast (dots vs. stripes, curves vs. points). I colored the ribbon by stamping Polished Pink over it with a detailed floral image — betcha can’t tell!.

I will have detailed posts for each of my hop cards later in the week, complete with a list of products used. So please come back for an extended visit!

But now you’re on to Painted Orange, the blog of Charlet Mallett. Enjoy!

Sweet Conversations: Luv U

I designed this make-and-take note card for my team meeting in December so we could play with products from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog — and getting a head-start on Valentine’s Day wasn’t a bad strategy, either!

Sweet Conversations | This, my first inking of this stamp set, is a pretty traditional card. But I just had to use that adorable little envelope from the coordinating Sweet Hearts dies set! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

This, my first inking of Sweet Conversations, is a pretty traditional card. (But I just couldn’t wait to use that adorable little envelope from the coordinating Sweet Hearts dies set!) I offset some of the sweetness with a sprinkling of little hearts using whatever scraps I had handy.

Meanwhile, I have continued working with this set in preparation for my return to the Stamp Review Crew! Some of you may remember when I participated in blog hops with this group a couple of years ago. The first hop I’ll be part of will be Sweet Conversations — but this card is not part of the hop. All new stuff!

If you’ve never followed a blog hop before, simply come back to the Heartfelt Inkspiration site any time on Monday (we are required to have our hop posts live by 5:00 a.m. Central). There you’ll see my creations using this hop’s featured set, as well as links to the blogs before and after me in the list. It’s pretty simple, so I hope to see you here Monday and that you’ll comment on my work!

Bouquet of Love: Heart and flowers

I asked my husband what he thought of this card. When there was a longer-than-I-thought-necessary pause, I knew there was trouble ahead. “I like this,” he said, pointing at the heart. “But what is this?” I replied with exaggerated patience, “It’s the ribbon treatment,” and couldn’t help but laugh. He’s right, don’t ask his opinion if I don’t want to hear it!

I love this color combo for a valentine; the embossed brown background reminds me of a box of chocolates! Yes, tied up with a ribbon, honey!

I was inspired by a card by Amy Koenders (although hers had a different ribbon treatment!). I created a simpler “heart and flowers” design for camp this month that I’ll share next week.

Check the recipe!

I hope you’ve been enjoying the new January-June 2022 Mini Catalog and January-February 2022 Sale-A-Bration Brochure with me! Like some of you, my first several passes through these publications were via the online pdf (what you’ll see if you click the links above). When I got my hard copies — WOW!

And that reminds me: after being shocked at how many stampers still had not received hard copies by early this week, I am now hearing from people every day to reassure me that their copies finally arrived in the mailbox.

I really appreciate how much Stampin’ Up! has given us in these catalogs — not just the products, but the organization and aids. Have you noticed the icons by some products or samples? Take a look at one of my favorite cards on page 13 and you’ll see a clock face icon. The key on page 3 lets you know that this is a “quick and easy” card. Need to create something in a hurry? Just look for that icon!

One of my favorite features has been improved: the indexes in the back are now in alphabetical order. So easy to find what I’ve been looking for!

At one time, Stampin’ Up! put the project “recipes” in the catalogs, but that became unwieldy (and expensive). Now the recipes — supplies and measurements — are provided in pdf format. I have several years’ worth collected on the Resources page of this blog; download them to your own local storage to avoid lots of printing!

Marvelous Masks Class (February 2022)

It’s back-to-school time with my latest class. In the past few months, I got to play with the Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks (page 65 of the Jan-Jun 2022 Mini). And now it’s your turn!

In this class, you’ll use several different tools and techniques to create beautiful and fun effects for your paper crafting projects. The technique samples you create and the Celebrating You stamp set included with your registration will be used to finish eight cards with envelopes.

This event will be held “camp style,” which means we’ll start at the same time and you’ll stay in the same place for the entire session.

Click here to download a pdf brochure for this class with complete details.

Register through PayPal at the bottom of this page.

Choose one of three sessions:

  • Friday, February 4, 1:30-4:30 p.m.
  • Friday, February 4, 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Blessings of Home: Perfect Birthday

Yesterday was packed with activities from (very early) morning till night. So much for vacation! It had been three weeks since we picked up the 5th grader from school, and suddenly we were back in the routine: waiting in line, snacks, homework, comics, and the neighbor’s cat.

During the time without certain responsibilities, I was able to get a lot of playing done. Products from the Heart & Home suite were available to demonstrators participating in OnStage@Home in November, so you may have been seeing samples for several weeks. This was one of my creations using the Blessings of Home set:

Blessings of Home | Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks | I don't have anything against patterned paper, but I *love* to create my own! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

I made this card in several colorways, but when my Butterflies & Flowers Layering Decorative Masks arrived, I just had to go for this wintery purple. I love to make my own patterned paper, and this set of masks is quite amazing. Not only are there background patterns, but half of the set is designed for multi-step masking.

I’m so enthralled with this product that I’ve created a February class specifically to allow you to experiment with several techniques. I’ll share the details tomorrow!

I used several different Stampin’ Blends markers on the flowers; use the colors you love!
