I Like You

Here is this year’s valentine for my husband, with an unexpected (but true) sentiment on the front. During the COVID isolation, I remarked several times how grateful I am that we like each other. The months of forced “lockdown” could have been an excruciating time, but we managed to survive and enjoy our togetherness.

The sweeter message is inside, in case you’re wondering!

Because Classic Ink dries so slowly on Vellum, I stamped the sentiment in Early Espresso and quickly embossed it with clear powder. If I had left the ink to dry, it would have been too light — and even with the embossing, it’s not as dark as you would expect. It’s a useful hack, as is inking your stamp in Versamark, then in the ink color of your choice, then embossing in clear. I should experiment to see if the result would be substantially different.

It’s unfortunate that from the product name “Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder” you don’t get the whole picture. As amazing as the EF is, there are also nine dies, including this pretty stitched heart. Click the picture in the recipes at the end of this post to see the whole story!

Stamp camps – creative workshops using rubber stamps, ink, and paper — are open to anyone who is interested, whether experienced or new to this paper crafting hobby.  You’ll always find friendly and helpful stampers who will welcome you.

To register, contact me by Sunday the week of camp, so I can be sure to have enough materials.  Pre-payment is not required.  Your $15 fee covers all supplies and materials for four projects, envelopes for cards, and step-by-step printed instructions.  Make one additional set of projects for just $5 more — let me know when you register so I am prepared.  Remember to bring your poly envelope for your completed cards, as well as your own adhesive and scissors.  It is your choice to wear a mask; hand sanitizer and wipes will be available for everyone to use.

Blessings of Home: Just for You

After falling in love with a tag by Madeleine Mrotzek, I knew I had to work it into a camp card. Later, I made multiples to use as birthday greetings for friends and family members in the past few weeks.

Blessings of Home | Celebrating You | Timeworn Type | Tailor Made Tags | The original version that I saw of this tag was in Blushing Bride, but I wanted a less feminine feel. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Madeleine’s version was in Blushing Bride, but I wanted something more wintery. Stampers repeated the Misty Moonlight stamping on the inside of the card and on the flap of the envelope.

How about that throw-back tearing! I’m not sure when we last tore anything, so it was kind of awkward, but I think it fits here. The horizontal ribbing on the Crumb Cake part of the tag is from the Stripes & Splatters 3D embossing folders pack. Its width is perfect for a tag — but it has to be put into the folder sideways. Just remember that embossing folders need to be put through hinge-side first.

Nuts & Bolts: Beep

This January camp card was designed specifically for the 5th-grader. He is a builder, an engineer-in-the-making (like his dad). At his Saturday birthday party a couple of weeks ago, he received several LEGO kits. When I needed a project (or three) for the unplanned snow date at our house the following Tuesday, his mom said, no, they were not available; they had been completed by Sunday bedtime! Instead, we got out the sewing machine and he made all kinds of things with that.

Don’t be afraid of these tiny die-cut hearts; the Sweet Hearts Dies has individual heart dies and strips of multiple hearts, making it easy to cut a bunch at a time. And the secret to adhering these to your project without getting your fingers sticky is to put a tiny drop of liquid adhesive where you want the heart. Put the heart on the glue with tweezers or the Take Your Pick tool (I press the heart down with the capped bottle of glue). My saying (coming soon to a t-shirt near you!) is “Put the adhesive on the destination, not the object.”

Love & Happiness: Valentine Greetings

Seven days, people! One week! And if you’re mailing love notes across the country, they should have been in the mail … last Wednesday, as best as I can estimate!

Here’s one that’s on its way to North Dakota (complete with a handwritten letter, thanks to DH). It was a camp card in January:

Love & Happiness | Yes, this is a great bundle for love notes, but I find I use just the Bouquet of Love Hybrid Embossing Folder for all kinds of backgrounds (and cover the heart). Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

When cutting a bunch of these embossed panels, I mark the folder with a Sharpie so that I can position the cardstock in the same place each time. Of course, I tested my placement with some scratch paper first, to make sure the Flirty Flamingo heart would be off the embossed panel a bit — but not off the card!

Here you may be able to see that we tinted the heart with Flirty Flamingo, using a Blending Brush. Just hitting the high spots made a big difference!

Although the July-December 2021 Mini Catalog has expired, there are items that are still available — and this B/W checked ribbon is one of them. Essential! (So I stocked up!) To avoid wasting ribbon where it can’t be seen, we punched a hole where it would be hidden by the heart and wrapped the ribbon from there to the edge of the matted cardstock.

Stamp Review Crew: Bonus Sale-A-Bration

You may be surprised to find the Stamp Review Crew hopping today — usually, our hops are on the first and third Monday. Because of the extra Monday in January, we’re doing something different: our hop features a stamp set of the blogger’s choice from the January-February 2022 Sale-A-Bration Brochure. There are 11 blogs on this hop, so you’ll find lots of inspiration from this little brochure!

If you’re not beginning the hop here, you probably arrived from My Sandbox, the blog of Nikki Spencer. (Remember to click the banner above to see the list of all blogs featured in today’s hop.)

I chose to use not one, but two SAB stamp sets. I was immediately taken with Driving By — as have been so many stampers! My challenge was to take a less-driven route (auto humor!), and the question is, what is the “something” I have for the recipient of this card? The elements here send some mixed messages …

I stamped the sports car image with the balloons omitted and adhered a few hearts cut with the Sweet Heart Dies from the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog. I stamped and cut a mask to cover the car so I could use one of the masks from the Butterflies & Flowers Decorative Masks Set in an ombre effect. That was fun, and I love the “groovy” effect. I look forward to showing this card IRL to the stampers at this weekend’s Marvelous Masks class sessions!

So, is the recipient of this card getting a new sports car? Going on a road trip adventure? For the second half of the sentiment, check out Special Moments, the fabulous Sale-A-Bration sentiment set with twenty-one stamps. If you can, get that set!

You’ll find the list of products used on this card below. But if you’re speed-hopping, you’re on to Rubber Redneck to find out what Sale-A-Bration set Holly Krautkremer has been playing with. Have fun, and see you soon!

Blessings of Home: Perfect Birthday in blue

Before I experimented with Blessings of Home in purple, I tried it in blue:

Blessings of Home | This is a standard layout for me, with pattern and texture providing the interest. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Yes, this card is essentially the same as the Razzleberry one; this is a standard layout for me when I don’t have a lot of design time, with a 2″ piece of pattern on the left and a more-or-less-centered focal point. There are many floral stamp images that would work here, but who’s to say you have to limit it to flowers? And for that matter, why not rotate this layout 90 degrees?

As usual, I used an assortment of Stampin’ Blends markers to color the flowers, including the unexpected Crumb Cake. I loved the “neutral” flowers!

So how do you qualify for Stampin’ Rewards?

Yesterday I shared a card with you that used two free products: the adorable Mischievous Mice stamp set and versatile Pattern Party 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. (As I said, don’t overlook the host-only products at the back of the catalogs!)

So how do you qualify for Stampin’ Rewards?

In a party setting, Stampin’ Rewards go to the host (who coordinates in-person guests or catalog distribution) and are calculated on the total party sales. Outside of the party setting, Stampin’ Rewards are available to customers when they place individual orders that meet the order totals shown on the chart on the host page in the catalog. Stampin’ Rewards begin with a total of at least $150.

The same applies when you host a party during our Sale-A-Bration event (through February 28)! Once you meet a certain amount in order totals — inside or outside of the party setting — you can earn a free, exclusive stamp set (Calming Camellia).

Don’t worry, when you are placing a “party” order with me, I will coach you to get the most for your benefits. And if you are placing an individual, online order that qualifies for Stampin’ Rewards, you will be prompted during the ordering process to choose your benefits.

Mischievous Mice: A quick note

If you’ve been stampin’ as long as I have, you’ll remember when the only Stampin’ Rewards you earned were products exclusive to hosts. How much nicer to have product credits to “spend” on whatever you want! That’s right, free stuff!

However, I think it’s easy to overlook the host-only products that are at the very end of each catalog. (Check page 170 of the Annual Catalog and page 90 of the January-June 2022 Mini Catalog to see them.) Not to be missed from the mini is Mischievous Mice — this was a card from my January stamp camps:

Mischievous Mice | Don't miss out on this host-only set, with the cutest rodents and wonderful sentiments! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The patterned paper background is from Pattern Party, a host-only product from the Annual Catalog. It’s a pack of paper with twice the number of sheets as other packs, with colored patterns that are very versatile and excellent black-and-white patterns on the reverse. It’s a challenging choice!

You probably know that Stampin’ Up! sells Stampin’ Blends markers only as combo packs — both light and dark variations of a color. But except for the eraser, we colored this image with only the light Blends. We used the Color Lifter to make tiny “hyphens” in the gray portions to simulate fur, and if the wooden tip of the pencil was too dark, we took off some of that color, also.

This mouse is so fun to color — or, it should be! If you’re having trouble enjoying the process, I recommend stamping four or five images on scraps of Basic White and practicing. It’s only paper; as we say, you’re not doing brain surgery! I think flowers are great images to use for practice, because you’re creating art, not necessarily imitating reality.
