Charming Sentiments: Happiest of Birthdays

Here is the second of my Stamp Review Crew cards from the latest hop. I knew the card base needed something, but I’m not a fan of pressure embossing the entire front, since it makes the cardstock too soft and flexible. I could have done that with a slightly smaller Pear Pizzazz panel layered atop, but instead, I went back to my fave Artistic Mix Decorative Masks.

This was the perfect touch to give some garden-y interest to the card front!

I left just a bit of space between these two tags because I didn’t want the “tops” to get too close to the left and right edges of the card.

Charming Sentiments: Faith Over Fear

This was my first card in the Stamp Review Crew’s blog hop earlier this week. Although I colored a piece of Perfectly Penciled Designer Series Paper and cut it into pieces for my three cards, you could certainly use any patterned paper. It’s just that one morning I simply wanted to color, so I made my cards around the result. It’s not usually the way I work (start with a plan, then work the plan), but I enjoy coloring and had missed it because of family and other obligations.

As I mentioned in Monday’s post, the three cards use very easy layouts, ones that can be adapted to your preferences. You will find ingredients, measurements, and directions when you click on the Free Project Sheet widget below.

Just a note about the coloring: although I did use both light and dark Petal Pink markers for the flowers, I only used the light Granny Apple Green marker on the leaves. You might think the mat on the sentiment circle would also be Granny Apple Green, but I like the way Pear Pizzazz looks instead. Don’t omit the Wink of Stella over the Daffodil Delight flower centers!

Stamp Review Crew: Charming Sentiments

Hello and welcome to this Stamp Review Crew bonus blog hop! Normally, you can expect to find us on the first and third Mondays each month, but today we are exceptional! And we are exceptionally small, as there are only four stops on the hop (see the list of today’s blogs by clicking the banner, above). You may have hopped here from Holly’s blog, Rubber Redneck. If you regularly hop with the Stamp Review Crew, you have enjoyed many of her creations!

Our focus today is on the must-have message set, Charming Sentiments:

Stampin' Up! Charming Sentiments #159985

Not only is this full of wonderful, basic sentiments for the front of your card, but there are also coordinating messages for the inside. I appreciate that, and I know many of you agree. Notice the bundle’s Sentiment Silhousettes die set that gives these images a fussy-cut look — without the work! However, I decided I would get enough mileage from the stamp set alone (or with assorted non-bundle dies), so that’s what I have used here. These three cards all started with a 12″ x 3½” piece of Perfectly Penciled Designer Series Paper, which I colored with Stampin’ Blends markers and then cut apart or die cut.

The first card uses an embossed strip between two sections of DSP; the heat-embossed sentiment is on a matted scalloped circle.

I created a custom background with an Artistic Mix mask for this next card, then die cut two Designer Tags from my custom-colored DSP. The sentiment here is also heat embossed.

I used one of my favorite layouts for my final card, cutting the edge of the DSP with the “angle” die from Basic Borders. The sentiment on the black panel is heat embossed.

These are all basic layouts, ones I use over and over. Nothing complicated here. To prove it to you, I’ll share details about these cards in upcoming Heartfelt Inkspiration blog posts and provide links to free project sheets.

Now, it’s time to move on to see what Lou Kitzelman has for you at With a Bow On Top. Enjoy!

Cup of Tea

In the winter, I usually start my work day with a cup of herbal tea — or two or three — brewed using a tea bag, not plants from the garden! But isn’t this cup of flowers cute?

Cup of Tea | Teacup dies | This bundle has enough images and die cuts for *lots* of unique cards! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

I cut the cup from a piece of In Color Designer Series Paper, and having options is the appeal of this bundle. I have all kinds of ideas for “good china” and everyday cups for this!

There’s nothing at all challenging about affixing the overlay to the cup if you first adhere a piece of Adhesive Sheet to a scrap of Basic White, then die cut the overlay. A bit crooked when you pressed it down onto the cup? Simply peel it off and reposition it. That’s my kind of fussy adhering!

As you can see, I popped up the larger flowers, overlapping them slightly on the stems, and flat adhered the small ones behind. Don’t overlook the link below to download the project sheet for this card!

Designer Tags: Birthday Wishes

Here’s one more card using the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks and Designer Tags before I tuck them away. I wanted to do something for my BIL’s birthday in August. I think it suits him.

I did this background twice; the first one was way too wild with both Crumb Cake and Sahara Sand! But it was fun to take the plaid 180° from this version.

If you’re impressed with the precision of the plaid, well, I have a secret: I trimmed the panel after I created it because it was a tad crooked. I do this with a grided quilt ruler and rotary cutter. (I’m pretty sure most stampers are more laid back than I am about this!) Oh, and that’s how I trimmed the sentiment strip, too, because I couldn’t find a die that worked.

Designer Tags: Hello There

Talk about taking the long way around! I’ve been thinking and thinking about this rose cutout in the Designer Tags set of dies. I started out correctly, die cutting a piece of So Saffron that I intended to insert into the negative parts of the black tag. When I saw all the little pieces, I was confused. Blame it on a full day with the middle schooler, or the heat and humidity, or the long weekend — but I just couldn’t understand how it was going to work.

Designer Tags | Nature's Prints | Getting the colors in this negative die cut confused me. How about you? Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

So instead of giving up, I die cut the tag and rose, then adhered pieces of Pear Pizzazz for the leaves and So Saffron for the roses behind the tag. This did give me the opportunity to add some shading to the roses, and it probably was less work than fussy gluing all those tiny pieces. I’ll try again.

I added a bit of background using a mask and a very light application of So Saffron ink. But two things I haven’t done in quite some time: make a card using Very Vanilla and make a card in landscape orientation!

Simply Fabulous: Saying Hello

I had such a good time preparing and presenting the Marvelous Masks class a few months ago, I could hardly wait to get the latest masks in my hands! The Artistic Mix Decorative Masks, from the new Stampin’ Up! 2022-2023 Annual Catalog, is a product consisting of five masks.

Simply Fabulous | Picture this plaid in your favorite colors -- you can do it with the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

As you can see from the product photo here, there are two pairs of masks that can be used to layer the designs. I created the plaid on my card by applying Orchid Oasis ink using the “big block” mask (which created the large squares), then layered Starry Sky ink over my panel using the “detailed plaid” mask (which created the smaller, double-outlined squares). You can see how the other pair would work — and of course, these masks can be used by themselves.

My In Color ink pads are pretty juicy, so my color (applied with Blending Brushes) is not very even.

Still, this card should bring some cheer to the recipient, and I am looking forward to more experimentation. The lower level craft area will be the perfect place to be during this hot spell!
