Christmas Classics: Happy Happy Happy

Having a friend with a birthday around Christmas, I was determined to use the Christmas Classics set in a decidedly non-Christmas way for her card! (This is my second card from theĀ Stamp Review Crew blog hop earlier this week, featuring Christmas Classics.) I turned to a simple technique that I used years ago that gives the impression of snow-covered pine boughs. After stamping the boughs in VersaMark and heat embossing them with white powder, I randomly added lines using an Old Olive Stampin’ Blends marker. On top of the embossing, the lines were light; those directly on the Crumb Cake tag were darker. That’s it! No plan, no strategy.

I wanted to add to the winter feel with a plaid background. I love my background stamps because of their versatility (the same reason I love background masks). Instead of trying to get this straight on the Old Olive panel, I stamped on a larger piece and then trimmed it. The lines aren’t perfectly straight — hence the “sketched” in the name of this stamp. I used Lemon-Lime Twist ink to make sure there wasn’t too much contrast.

I used Old Olive as my only non-neutral color on this card because I wanted to use these Adhesive-Backed Glitter Sequins, which retired from the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog and are no longer available. I hope for more embellishments like this, as I think they are perfect: flat, self-adhesive, and packaged in more than one size and color. So I used them as the “bullets” in the list.
