Returning home from a walk one day last week (seriously bundled up) I saw spring bulbs just above the soil in the front yard around our birch tree. So exciting! This month a year ago — no, I’m not going to talk about the virus — we had had a trench about 8.5-feet-deep dug from the house to the street to replace the sewer. (Read the fascinating story here!) I wasn’t sure our yard would ever return to normal but, despite so much destruction, behold some of the dozens of happy, determined tulips and daffodils we planted in the fall!
So I’ve been creating some brighter, livelier designs recently, including this birthday card. As usual, I made multiples — both because I love to color and also because I’ve got lots of special days ahead!
I couldn’t bear to use anything but this wonderful paper from the retired Gingham Gala pack, and since I still have some retired Basic Black Shimmer Ribbon, I used that, too, for contrast.
The embossing on the upper Basic White panel is subtle, but that’s not the folder I used! One of my favorite 3D embossing folders is Scripty because it’s a great contrast.

The challenge — no, the fun part of designing for a stamp-a-stack is making sure each of the six designs is different from the others. This was especially important because January’s All-Occasions SAS to Go had two consistent elements: the Flower & Field Designer Series Paper from the January-February Sale-A-Bration Brochure and Happy Thoughts, a stamp set from the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog.
This concept for this card was designed by Jennifer Taylor. I used her layout to create two cards; SAS participants made one of each. This one is a card I’d send to someone I (still) can’t hug.
This card is a bit more tailored; I’ll save it for one of the guys in the family.
This sentiment circle matted in silver reminds me of the metal-rimmed key tags we used to stamp on. I found some of those in my craft area not too long ago!
I love a layout that is so versatile!

This is another stamp-a-stack design concept by Jennifer Taylor. I love the fun of combining patterns with a simple shape; it was fun to play with the circles to get just the combination I wanted.
To ramp up the design a bit, I flat adhered the circles to a Basic White panel, rather than directly to the card front, then ran it through my Cut & Emboss using the Subtle 3D embossing folder.
It’s so fast to punch these circles, you could have a dozen cards ready to go in no time! (And I do!)

Here again is a design layout that is probably known by some stampers by a different name.
As with yesterday’s card, the construction is easier than it looks. Here, the patterned layer (4″ x 5ÂĽ”) has a 1½” slit cut from the right side, 2¼” down from the top. Then the top and bottom pieces are turned back from the slit to the corners.
One tip: make sure the pattern on the reverse side of your DSP is facing north, so that when it is turned back, something doesn’t display upside-down. Even better, chose a pattern that doesn’t have a “wrong” direction when turned back.
I chose an unrelated pattern for one set of leaves. There’s just enough pattern to make it interesting, but not distracting. I like going through my stash to see if I have a pattern that will work for die cuts like this.

If there’s another name for this card design, I hope someone will tell me! But “angled cut” is what I called it for the stampers who subscribed to the January All-Occasions Stamp-a-Stack to Go.
It’s a beautiful layout (thank you, Jennifer!), and pretty easy to figure out — just make a diagonal cut through the top panel, and then another one at a slightly different angle. Make sure the piece of patterned paper that will peek through is big enough so the edges won’t show when you flat adhere it, and that’s it!
Plenty of happy flowers on this card!
I’ll be sharing the other stamp-a-stack designs the rest of this week. Please don’t forget that the last day to get this Flower & Field Designer Series Paper free with qualifying purchase is next Sunday, February 28 — the last day of Sale-A-Bration!

What’s not to love about black and white patterned paper? Years ago, when there were only a handful of home design shows, I heard an interior decorator say that the secret to a beautiful room is a bit of black. It can be true of a card design as well!
So although I was focusing on the graphical designs of the True Love Designer Series Paper, I quickly realized how stunning the floral sides are! And, if you love to color and you love can endure fussy cutting, you’ve got a wonderful shortcut to a beautiful card!
So many things in addition to the floral image make me happy about this card: finally using this beautiful ribbon, the amazing background, and the simple sentiment. For the record, it’s the first stamp in this set to see ink!
This blank, reusable note card is being sent to stampers who have earned a free stamp set of their choice as part of the Burgin Bucks program. No price limit, no tax, no shipping. I love thanking my stampers this way!

Although it is bitter cold here and we have snow upon snow, I’m just not ready for spring yet! But I am ready to think just a bit about the garden and wonder how all our work will look in a couple of months.
So it’s not too surprising that I chose lighter colors for this February camp card. (Thanks to Jaimie Babarczy for the inspiration!) Here is another die cut from the Flowering Vine set — you can see the other card here — but instead of drama, I went for a little sweetness. Or maybe sweet drama.
I cut this medallion from Thick Basic White card stock so that it wasn’t flimsy. Behind it, eight flowers are fussy glued.
This shimmery 1/4″ ribbon is so beautiful and has the prettiest edge. Both colors in this combo pack are perfect for me!

For some reason, I didn’t take pictures of the many valentines I sent out last week, nor of the ones I helped Peter make for his class party. Both used the Lots of Heart bundle, something I was pretty sure I could do without (“How many hearts does a person need, anyway?”) but bought anyway. And glad that I did, as I used it for the card that greeted my husband at breakfast today:
I’m not sure where I saw this stitched heart, but I could hardly wait to try it myself. Seemed perfect to use with this lighthearted layout!
I couldn’t decide on a color for the heart, so I had several tries at this stitching. It took me back to the many cross-stitched pieces I did years ago, when I could focus on the pattern and the fabric without whipping my glasses on and off and my hands didn’t cramp. I saw on someone’s Instagram feed a sampler from a book I remember using. It didn’t look dated or vintage or sad — or anything but charming. Time to find a place for the piece I made for my parents’ anniversary.
Here’s the second February camp card to use the Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper from the current Sale-A-Bration. This tone-on-tone design is simple but amazing. Thank you to Sharon Burkert for her inspiration. I guess I could even say I CASEd her design, with only a few differences!
This Wild Roses background stamp is stunning, but I think using a Stamparatus is essential. You’ll be happier with a deeper tone than a single impression can give. I inked up at least three times.
This would be equally suitable made as a sympathy card, don’t you think?
The color here looks more like Rich Razzleberry, I think, but it is beautiful, rich Blackberry Bliss. I drove a car that color for many miles and many years! Now my car matches my hair.
