October Jingle Jump registration ends tomorrow!

Don’t wait another minute to reserve your space at this month’s Jingle Jump!  (Remember, if I have not received your payment, you are not yet registered!)  The October edition, at my home in DeKalb, has these three sessions:

Session 1:  Thursday, October 26 — 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Session 2:  Friday, October 27 — 1:00-5:00 p.m. (only one spot left!)
Session 3:  Saturday, October 28 — 9:00 a.m. till noon

At this stamp-a-stack, you’ll make 10 Christmas/winter cards with envelopes for $22 (or make more, if you wish).  All the designs are different from September’s Jingle Jump. These cards are each designed to be completed in about 10 minutes.  But there’s no rush!  Rather than working as a table on one project at a time, you’ll work on the cards you want at your own pace. That also means you can come whenever you want.

Registration closes Tuesday, October 17, or when capacity is reached.  Click here for more information and to register online.

Alphabest: Fall

I love to create my own backgrounds, especially with Stampin’ Up!’s Decorative Masks, or stencils. Just think — exactly the colors you want! Each stamper who made this October camp card made it her own, but they were all beautiful!

When I first saw this set of masks in the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog, I admit I was pretty lukewarm. But, as always happens, I see other stampers making wonderful things, and I catch their enthusiasm. I have another camp card that uses another one of the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks that I’ll share with you next week.

The letters are the opposite story. As I told one of the camps, I was in love with Alphabest when this set came out last year. I have a terrible track record with alphabet stamps (and dies), so I thought this would be another case of something retiring before I ever used it (gulp). But this card ended up providing the perfect opportunity to use it!

If you’re looking in the catalogs for the embossing folder on the Copper Clay strip, you won’t find it. It’s available in the Online Exclusives collection — be sure to check out the other unpublished products there!

Autumn Leaves: Change Can Be Beautiful

I had this post scheduled when the internet thwarted my plans. Or rather, the internet, the service provider, the wi-fi, the signal booster, the operating system, the hardware — well, it depends who I was talking to. Anyway, things seem to be back, and perhaps my cyber life here will go on.

Change can be beautiful, but sometimes getting to the beautiful requires going through the painful. I sent this September camp card to a friend who recently moved away from our area, where she had lived for many decades. I did my best to express my love and support for her.

It’s so nice to move away (even temporarily) from traditional fall colors. I was inspired by a card from Amy Koenders for just that reason. I loved her use of gingham check edges, which contrast with the leaf shapes so wonderfully!

I added some gold touches — actually, quite a few of them! I am happy to report that the Distressed Gold Specialty Paper is back in stock, at least at this time.

Joy of Christmas Suite

There are some elements of Christmas cards that I simply can’t resist: green holly, bright red berries, and touches of gold. That’s why my attention was absolutely riveted to the Joy of Christmas Suite in the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog. My Jingle Jump planning had begun!

Perhaps you know that a suite is an easy way to order all the components (the “collection”) of a themed and coordinated set of products — using just one product number! There is no savings to ordering a suite except for the 10% discount for the bundle(s).

I went through nearly two packs of the Joy of Christmas 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper just for September’s Jingle Jump! Don’t forget to take note of the color palette for the suite shown below the DSP on page 29 — no wonder I was smitten! I’ll share some of the September cards in the coming weeks, but meanwhile, I am happily working on cards for the October Jingle Jump later this month.

Season of Chic: Thinking of You

Sometimes I stumble upon A Perfect Card, and this creation by Cathy Peck was one of them! So, with few changes, it was one of the September camp cards.

The sponged “wave” is easily accomplished with a piece of “junk” cardstock torn twice to create asymmetrical edges. The important thing to remember is that the Crumb Cake panel must not move (so we used my favorite Post-It tape to secure the top and bottom edges) and the torn strips must not move (Post-It tape on the side edges). The sponging and blending don’t look very promising until you remove the masks. Then, it’s amazing! Just know it can’t be done the same way twice, so embrace the serendipity!

The Season of Chic bundle was new in last year’s Annual Catalog. I wanted it, but did I really need it? This is the debate I have when I can’t really justify a purchase, stamping or otherwise. But when I saw Cathy’s card, I knew the set (and its coordinating dies) would be perfect for camp, the upcoming Jingle Jump, and more.

In addition to that wonderful leaf image, the “spatters” of gold make this design a winner! Just remember that the sponged and stamped ink must be absolutely dry before stamping the spatter in VersaMark and heat embossing it. It’s a good idea to use a Heat Tool to dry the ink — and then to use an Embossing Buddy to make sure there will be no random powder.

Fruitful Blessings: Hello Friend

I love to color. Even when my sub-par work has to be relegated to the recycle bin, the process is enjoyable. It’s rare that I don’t try again to improve, rare that I just abandon an image (or set!) because I can’t get the coloring to my liking.

Fruitful Blessings was not abandoned! We made this card for camp in September. If you look at the supply list, below, you may be surprised at the number of Stampin’ Blends used!

The colors on these fall-ish flowers were inspired by the Stampin’ Up! sample on page 45 of the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog. Don’t overlook those samples! But it was Patty Bennett who listed the Stampin’ Blends colors so I wouldn’t have to figure it out myself!

We have such beautiful embossing folders, why limit myself to using just one on a card? I won’t say that I’ve never bought an embossing folder that disappointed me (or that I just couldn’t make work) — as my campers know, my problem is that I can’t put some of these away!

Foursquare Decorative Masks: Everything Wonderful

Using Embossing Paste with Decorative Masks creates something wonderful! This is the last card from August’s Marvelous Masks class that I’ll be sharing with you. We learned how to use Embossing Paste (here, the matte version) at the end of the class session since there’s some cleanup required. The paste hardens pretty quickly — and once dry, it’s probably impossible to remove from the mask. (Similarly, the only part I dislike of making sourdough bread from scratch — once a week, generally — is the cleanup of the dough. Woe to me if I haven’t checked the sink or my arm for dried bits!) The paste is scraped through the holes with a kind of trowel, or with a wooden craft stick held parallel to the mask.

Creating this card from Shaded Spruce was not my first choice, but I needed high contrast to show off those checks. Something about this makes me think of a 1960s-era TV drama about a big city, like skyscraper windows lit up.

It’s difficult to see the texture created by the embossing past on this angled panel, but it’s pretty cool!

Get a “jump on your jingle” with this popular holiday stamp-a-stack.  Come and make 10 holiday/winter cards (a few of the same or a variety) for just $22.  There will be six different designs to choose from in different styles—no designs are repeated from the September Jingle Jump!  You will probably complete each card in about 10 minutes or so, since there’s lots of interest but not a lot of fuss, in order to keep the cost low.  Cards can be mailed with no additional postage, and each will have an inside sentiment.  This event is perfect for the new stamper, as you will work at your own pace—invite a friend to join you!

Session 1:  Thursday, October 26 — 6:30-9:30 p.m. (come any time)
Session 2:  Friday, October 27 — 1:00-5:00 p.m. (come any time)
Session 3:  Saturday, October 28 — 9:00-noon (come any time)

Registration is limited to 10 stampers at each session and will close Tuesday, October 17, or when full. I’m sorry, I cannot refund your fee after registration closes.

Need more than ten cards? Each additional card you make is $2, payable at the camp. I’ll supply envelopes and Stampin’ Dimensionals, but you need to bring your own scissors and adhesive (I suggest bringing several types).

Paid registration of $22 must be received by Tuesday, October 17. I’ll just need your name/contact information and your session choice in addition to your check, or register online below. Please note that if I do not have your payment, you are not registered for this event.
