New Online Exclusives products today!

When a stampin’ buddy couldn’t identify the trim used on the NOEL card on page 30 of the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog, I was no help. She and I both looked high and low to solve the mystery, but only she thought of checking the Online Exclusives area — and discovered the Gold & Silver ⅛” Trim Combo Pack!

You may know that Online Exclusives items are not in any current publication. Stampin’ Up! adds products to this area periodically, and today’s the day! You can see all the products in my Stampin’ Up! Online Exclusives page, or keep reading to see the new ones below.

Because it’s my birthday month, I am offering you Double Burgin Bucks when you place an order with me of $50 or more using Host Code TFZU6JBV. (Of course, if you will be earning benefits of your own with an order of at least $150, you should not use my Host Code! You’ll still earn Double Burgin Bucks as a thank-you for your order.) You’ll be surprised to see how quickly you’ll be earning a free stamp set or bundle with my Burgin Bucks program!

Forever Forest: Joy

Forever Forest is another set I bought without its coordinating dies. I thought that I could get a lot of use just from the beautiful images, and I was right, but of course I saw wonderful creations using the dies. So it goes.

This is another simple Jingle Jump card featuring two retired items: the 1⅜” Circle Punch and Pear Pizzazz cardstock. Using my circle punches for events is so much easier for participants than a lot of die cutting; putting a plain sentiment piece against an embossed panel is a favorite design element of mine. I used Pear Pizzazz as a card base because I wanted the contrast of the trees in a darker color — and I had so much cardstock left over when it retired!

Today we are having new windows installed in three rooms. (I hope to be hiding in the lower level to escape the sound and dust.) Although we had been cleaning closets and storage areas upstairs and down as we had the energy during COVID recovery the past few weeks, we worked especially hard Saturday to get ready; I am grateful for the other local Burgins who helped move the bed and dresser and sofa, etc., yesterday They were rewarded with a pumpkin pie and cookies! How we will thank them for putting everything back, I wonder?

Joy to You: Good Tidings

I should know the name of this kind of font art, but I don’t. (Can you help me?) I thought it was a signboard, but that doesn’t seem correct.

Anyway, I find the images in this stamp set interesting — the fact that the weight of each line increases as you move down is very appealing. For this Jingle Jump card (yes, very simple!) we heat embossed the image in white for maximum contrast, but check out the samples on page 21 of the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog to see some variations.

Every year I am compelled to create a Christmas card in gray, white, and red. This Online Exclusives paper was perfect for what I had in mind; unfortunately, you can’t see here just how shiny this paper is (it’s a little more obvious in the product list, below). For even more bling, I used a strip of retired Glimmer Paper.

I have used quite a bit of Poppy Parade this fall. I like that it leans away from blue and lights up the Christmas greens. Do you use Poppy Parade or one of the other Stampin’ Up! reds?

Joy of Noel: Noel

This is an ultra-simple card from September’s Jingle Jump. This NOEL stamp is genius, as it is one image — no stressing over spacing or alignment! And yet, there is a die in the Joy of Noel bundle that cuts this out, too. Hmmm …

When I am using patterned paper, I often include a strip of it inside the card. There are two reasons for this: (1) repeating the pattern carries the theme of the card inside, and (2) I always have 1/2″ strips left over!

When you begin with a panel of gorgeous paper — as every piece of Joy of Christmas DSP is! — you’ve got a huge head start on a simple card. Even though this is a busy pattern, I love to use a frosty panel of embossed Vellum Cardstock to add texture and interest. Sometimes Vellum cracks or splits a bit when you emboss it, but I generally overlook that possibility because the overall effect is so beautiful.

Joy of Noel: Joyous

I’ve said it before: Stampin’ Up! understands product coordination! I don’t remember when they started offering a holiday “suite collection” that had two coordinated bundles (and all kinds of other goodies), but the Joy of Christmas suite from the September-December 2023 Mini Catalog is one of my favorites, ever! When these products arrived on my doorstep, even though I was in the middle of something else, it was all I could do to keep from playing. But I have learned to put new things in a big project box, on a shelf, and out of sight until my other tasks are finished.

The concept for this September Jingle Jump card was inspired by Dawn Olchefske and uses the Joy of Noel stamp set. You’ll see more from this bundle next week.

From this suite, this card also uses the Joy of Christmas 12″ x 12″ Designer Series Paper. It is terrific!

The coloring of these leaves and berries is really simple. The key is to “brush” the color on and not worry about leaving some white spots. You’d be surprised how quickly this image can be completed!

Wow, a Jingle Jump in November!

Surprised to see this graphic?  Well, as they say, life is what happens while you’re busy making other plans.  Today should have been this first of three sessions of Jingle Jump for October.  However, earlier this week I tested positive for COVID, so plans changed!

Because I have already done quite a bit of prep, I am opening a November edition.  If you were unable to attend in September, and the October dates didn’t work for you, perhaps these sessions will be better:

Session 1:  Thursday, November 9 — 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Session 2:  Friday, November 10 — 1:00-5:00 p.m.
Session 3:  Saturday, November 11 — 9:00 a.m. till noon

At this stamp-a-stack, you’ll make 10 Christmas/winter cards with envelopes for $22 (or make more, if you wish).  All the designs are different from September’s Jingle Jump. These cards are each designed to be completed in about 10 minutes.  But there’s no need to rush!  Rather than working as a table on one project at a time, you’ll work on the cards you want at your own pace. That also means you can come whenever you want.

This is your chance to participate, but don’t delay!  Registration closes Thursday, November 2, or when capacity is reached.  Click here for more information and to register online.

Christmas Greetings

This card, the first one I am sharing from last month’s Jingle Jump, is so simple. Each of the three patterns is 1″ x 4¾”, evenly spaced across the 4″ x 5¼” Basic White panel. Nervous about getting these straight and even? Then intentionally make them a bit crooked!

All of this Designer Series Paper is pretty well gone in my craft area, and it’s no wonder why! Beautiful patterns to mix and match, classic colors — perfect for Christmas cards or for other occasions!

Sometimes you need something bold enough to hold up against so much pattern — this host-only, retired stamp set from a few years ago is one of my favorites for this very image!

Trucking Along: Festive Christmas

I was determined to prove to myself that the Abundant Beauty Decorative Masks set is more than the sunflowers, and I knew just how I wanted to use the houndstooth mask. In fact, I had several other elements I wanted to use on one of the October stamp camp cards: the gingham ribbon that has been with us for a while, a tag (more on that below), and Trucking Along. Knowing I was going with a Christmas card, I wanted that houndstooth to be tone-on-tone. How difficult could that be? Surprisingly, it took Cherry Cobbler ink (and a lot of it!) on Poppy Parade cardstock to get the effect I wanted. I hope you can see it here!

The Trucking Along stamp set and coordinating punch are available through the Online Exclusives page (i.e., not in any catalog). You’ll want to look at the stamp set really, really closely to see just how much is included — there is lots of potential here!

Trucking Along #162299, available in the Stampin' Up! Online Exclusives shop.

We did two-step stamping for the truck (the highlighting is already there!), but you could certainly color the outline image. I colored the hub cap and wheels with Stampin’ Blends markers; stamping those would be just too fussy. Many of the stamps are two-step, outline/filler images, as you can see above. We used only the “filler” stamp of the Christmas tree, which seemed enough. That was fussy cut.

Two of my October camp cards featured tags. On both this Christmas card and this one, the tag is from the Merriest Trees set of dies. You’d be forgiven if you said you didn’t realize there was a tag in that set — it’s easy to overlook. Oh, and an adorable hole reinforcement die that folds over the tag, but not on this card.

Fruitful Blessings: Congratulations

I was pretty sure I wasn’t going to be able to color these pears with Stampin’ Blends markers and still get the subtle shading I wanted. I love Blends (you see me use them a lot!), but I thought it was time to dust off my Watercolor Pencils and see if I remembered how to use them for a stamp camp card. However, I quickly fell under the spell of the Watercolor Pencils + Blender Pen magic.

It’s been several years since I’ve taught a Watercolor Pencil class, but I still follow these tips:

  • Do not rush this process!
  • Unless you are coloring small areas (e.g., tiny flowers or leaves), I recommend using a pencil with a tip that is rounded, rather than sharp. I dull a too-sharp tip by scribbling on my Grid Paper.
  • Use a Blender Pen to “melt” the pencil pigment. Don’t scrub, just gently glide the pen across your work. Add more color if needed.
  • Practice!

I’d forgotten about the tendency of heavily embossed panels to lift at the edges if I’m not careful with my application of Multipurpose Glue. It’s my adhesive of choice, but I need to remember to make sure I press the edges firmly. If I think about it, I’ll put my quilting ruler over my work and put something heavy on top.
