Wrapped in Christmas: Evergreen Forest in silver

I love silver and blue for winter, so before I put away the Christmas products (but not too far away), I thought I’d see how the Evergreen Forest embossing folder looks on Silver Foil:

I used another of the sentiments from Wrapped in Christmas on the Misty Moonlight band. I didn’t have much space to work with, but I think “peace” is the perfect message for this serene scene!

This image makes it appear that the card base is Balmy Blue, but it actually is that gray-blue Seaside Spray that I love. Mark my words: this In Color may retire next year, but it will live on in this studio!

To increase the feel of winter, I added a band of Vellum Cardstock embossed with the Dainty Diamonds folder (new in the Stampin’ Up! 2020-2021 Annual Catalog). This is a 3D folder, and whether that explains it or the fact that there is so much embossing going on, the vellum cracked a bit. Luckily, I could hide it behind the silver panel.

Wrapped in Christmas: Evergreen Forest

I promise I’m not going all fa-la-la already, but I wanted to make up something using the embossed piece I showed in yesterday’s video revealing part of my pre-order from the upcoming mini.

Wrapped in Christmas | Evergreen Forest | Embossed Brushed Metallic Card Stock is the focal point on this simple card. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

No point in going overboard when you have this beautiful Brushed Metallic 12″ x 12″ Cardstock embossed with the equally beautiful Evergreen Forest embossing folder. So I didn’t! However, I couldn’t resist including some embossing using one of the Wrapped in Texture folders.

There are two sheets each of three colors — gold, bronze, and copper — in the Brushed Metallic pack; I used the gold here. Some of you may remember when Stampin’ Up! carried 8½” x 11″ brushed metallic card stock that had a matte finish. That was beautiful (I loved using it) but not the same as this, which is a shiny metallic foil with a subtle brush. Also beautiful!

Remember that the Stampin’ Up! August-December 2020 Mini Catalog does not go live until August 4. There’s plenty of time to make a shopping list! Perhaps you’ll start with the items you see here!

August-December 2020 Mini Catalog reveal (winter holiday)

Sorry for the bait-and-switch — this is not a Stamparatus video! Instead, enjoy seeing some of what UPS delivered yesterday!

Tasteful Touches: Best Plaid Builder

Except for the fact that I keep my spreadsheet in page order, Best Plaid Builder would have been first on my 2020-2021 Wish List! I could hardly wait to start playing with this set of dies — surprisingly, only two of them!

Tasteful Touches | Best Plaid Builder | What a simple concept this dies set is! Two dies allow you to create unlimited colors and variations of plaid! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

That’s right: one die cuts the “big” plaid and the other cuts the lines that cross. The potential for variations in pattern and color is unlimited!

I kept this card simple so as not to take away from the oh-so-cool card base, using my favorite sentiment from Tasteful Touches.

I matted the stitched circle with a round of vellum to set it off. I love that little “dressmaker touch”!

When it comes right down to it, this is a fast and simple card if you allow the dies to show off!

Salted Background: Let’s celebrate you

This is the last (I think) of my salted background technique cards. As I said on the technique video last week, the full piece of this that I made was really pink. I wasn’t sure I was going to do anything with it. Some experiments are like that!

But when I punched out several pieces from the master board and popped them up on a white card base, it was much better! (Although I think these photos still make this card look too intense.)

Look at all that veining! If I try another one of these, I think I’ll try neutrals with just one color. What would you try?

Salted background for you

Yes, this note card is for you — if you share on Facebook this week’s Salted Background Technique video and I draw your name. It will be in the mail to you for you to keep or send to someone else (the inside is blank). The deadline for sharing is before Saturday, July 11, so don’t delay!

I’ve been having fun experimenting with paper, water, ink, and salt to create interesting, organic pieces. Have you tried a Salted Background yet?

I’m sorry I didn’t give you a better closeup of this card in the video. Here you can see the amazing effect of coarse salt on water and ink. So cool! As I said, while the “master board” (or full piece of card stock) you’ve created may be something less than beautiful, when you cut it down and put it on a card, it is transformed. Context is a word I use a lot!

If you’re wondering about the black mat around the postage stamp punchie, it measures 1½” x 2⅛”.

Summer Nights

I know you’re singing (maybe even dancing), but I’m not talking about John or Olivia. Instead, I want to make sure you don’t miss the July Paper Pumpkin kit Summer Nights and the fun add-on.

The Summer Nights Kit includes nine postcards and coordinating envelopes, plus nine die-cut tealight bags. The colors in this kit are Blackberry Bliss, Calypso Coral, Coastal Cabana, and Night of Navy. Oooh! If you have an active Paper Pumpkin account, you will automatically be billed $22 (plus tax) unless you suspend this month’s kit or cancel your Paper Pumpkin account by July 10.

But there’s more! The Summer Nights Add-On is a separate purchase if you’d like to expand the Summer Nights Kit with a traditional card making experience. Because — bonus — once you have completed July’s kit, you’ll have leftover kit components that easily combine with the Summer Nights Add-On. No additional kit purchases are necessary! Between the leftover kit components and the add-on, it’s estimated that you’ll be able to create at least 20 additional Summer Nights cards (the Add-On comes with 24 coordinating card bases and envelopes)! The Summer Nights Add-On is $10.00 (plus S/H and tax) and is only available to Paper Pumpkin subscribers. The add-on is available only while supplies last and can be ordered via my online store here. Why not add a few more items to save on shipping and earn yourself a Bonus Coupon and a Burgin Buck?

Celebrate Sunflowers: Just saying hello

This is the last “random stamping with sunflowers” card you’ll see from me. At least for this week. As you may have noticed, I’ve been pretty obsessed with this concept, and I have the samples to prove it! But that obsession has been at least temporarily replaced, as you’ll see tomorrow.

Celebrate Sunflowers | Tasteful Touches | Not quite tone-on-tone, but the effect is there! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

When I stamped this, I hadn’t yet received the Bumblebee ink, so I used Crushed Curry instead. The effect is still tone-on-tone, I think — such an easy way to achieve a great look!

Do you recognize the brown 1/4″ Crinkled Seam Binding Ribbon? No? I colored it using a Sponge Brayer to apply Soft Suede ink. Ta da — ribbon in every color!

Instead of automatically using my favorite Tasteful Texture 3D embossing folder, I added a bit of background interest by using the “scroll” image from Tasteful Touches in stamped-off Sahara Sand.

I’m glad that the 2020-2022 In Color Enamel Dots are back in stock. They are essential!

How’d they do that?

Many stampers I know, myself included, pore over each Stampin’ Up! catalog and carefully examine each sample. What color is that? Is that the ribbon from the such-and-such suite? Did they color that with Stampin’ Blends or Watercolor Pencils? That die is one from the XYZ set, right?

No need to lose any sleep over those questions! Stampin’ Up! has given us the “recipes” — ingredients and directions — for samples on pages 1-194 of the 2020-2021 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog. Find the 227-page pdf Annual Catalog Sample Recipes here, or access it in my blog Resources page. Download it to your own local storage — no need to print it!
