Christmas moose

Oh, the moose! I was glad to see this set did not retire from last year’s holiday mini. Not only is the moose so fun to work with, the sentiments are wonderful and the trees are so pretty. I’m pretty sure I’ve loved everything I made with it.

But this card — well, I love it, but I didn’t design it! The credit goes to Laura Milligan, who created a perfect little design!

Black + white + a pop of color is always a good plan, and this plaid pattern was the perfect background for our moose!

I actually tied the Braided Linen Trim; it’s not too bulky, but I think it would have been simpler just to loop it around the moose’s neck and secure it with a Glue Dot.

I have to confess that this was the first time I used the Black Stampin’ Dimensionals! What a clever idea to create these for use behind darker card stock. They were the perfect way to pop up the moose without anything noticeable underneath.

The black and white baker’s twine retired some time ago. Very happy I still have a little bit left!

Fill your heart

I hope that is happening to you — that the joy of the season is filling your heart! I am finally getting some baking done, which I love. Since we can’t hold our annual neighborhood open house, the treats will be delivered next week, with help from Peter. (And I can delay the cleaning of the dining room chandelier a few more weeks!)

An embossed panel of white on a white card base is so pretty, isn’t it? And here again are the classic Christmas colors that I’ve enjoyed using for the stamp-a-stack cards. I guess I’m ready to move on, however, and the other day I stamped birthday cards in Old Olive (hello again!) and Merry Merlot.

That little scalloped bit of silver says, “Rejoice!” I love this sheer ribbon; I’ve used a lot of it and given away spools with my last promotion. I’m pretty sure the Gorgeous Grape 3/8″ Sheer Ribbon in the January-June 2021 Mini is the same ribbon. It’s amazing!

Surround yourself in patchwork

In keeping with yesterday’s patchwork-sort-of-quilt theme, here’s a variation. Like the card yesterday, I flat adhered the patterned pieces to a plain white base to keep them straight.

Wrapped In Christmas | Got scraps? Not a problem with this pieced layout. The hardest part may be narrowing down your choices of patterns! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

As I mentioned before, stampers who subscribed to the Holiday Stamp-a-Stack to Go may not have had the dies or punches needed to create cards like this one. And, speaking only for myself, I wouldn’t even try to get this round sentiment on a barely-bigger circle to mount on top of the red and green circle mats. Couldn’t do it.

My solution was to have them stamp on a white scrap, then adhere it behind the layered “donut.” This worked perfectly!

When I’m doing this kind of patchwork design, I like to emboss the completed panel with an all-over pattern, like Tasteful Textile, to give it a finished look.

Wonderful stripes

If you find yourself drowning in patterned paper scraps that seem too small to use, try the design on this card. The focal point is a 3¼” x 4” piece of white card stock that’s been completely covered with 4″ long pieces of patterns in various widths; the narrowest was 1/2″ wide. Using the white “foundation” helps keep the strips straight, although using your Grid Paper helps, too. And if you’re ultra fussy, you’ll use a clear, gridded quilting ruler. More on that some other time. Tip: to camouflage the white edge at the top of the last strip on the right, simply use a marker.

Wrapped In Christmas | Using strips of patterned paper is a clever way to create an impressive focal point. Accurate cutting is essential! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

It helps to start with fabulous paper! In keeping with the rest of the Holiday Stamp-a-Stack to Go projects, I started with the ’Tis the Season Designer Series Paper — retiring and on sale! (See the complete list here.)

The gold-printed strip is from Wonder of the Season, a Specialty Designer Series Paper that is retiring and marked down to half-price! The red strip is Red Velvet Paper; it’s not retiring so it will be perfect for Valentine’s Day projects.

I used a Gold Foil label to hold the sentiment. From the Painted Labels die set, it has a beautiful embossed detail.

Star

Sometimes, with the excessive holiday food and decorations and music and movies and everything, I need a huge dose of peace. I sit in the living room and let the quiet settle into me. That’s what this card provides.

Stitched Stars | Such a simple card, with a shiny star center stage. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Like the Poinsettia JOY card earlier this week, this mostly red card makes me happy. You wouldn’t expect Cherry Cobbler to be a calming color, but I think because the color palette is so simple, it feels that way.

I love the patterns in the retiring (and on sale!) ‘Tis the Season 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper pack, but especially the subtle designs that combine just Cherry Cobbler and Real Red, as this one does. So sophisticated! With that, I needed a neutral and was surprised by how beautifully some of the In Good Taste patterns worked with this design. That pack of DSP has twice the usual number of sheets — two each of 12 double-sided photographic designs — with beautiful patterns of tiles, wood flooring, stones, and other textures.

This is another November Holiday Stamp-a-Stack to Go design. I’m in the planning stages for the next “to go” kit for January. Watch for details soon!

Pine on snow

This is the slant of the sun in my kitchen in mid-afternoon. Oh, and it’s a dish of the 55 trees I stamped (twice) using the “stamp in the hole” Stamparatus technique I demonstrated in yesterday’s video. And the time it took? A mere 36 minutes. Of course, that did not include the punching — the entire point of this technique is that you are stamping on something already die cut or punched.

Here’s the simple card I made for this image:

Perfectly Plaid | Using the "stamp in the hole" Stamparatus technique allowed me to speed through these trees! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

It’s not too simple — I couldn’t resist a vellum circle embossed with the beautiful (and retiring) Winter Snow folder. Some well-placed, tiny dots of liquid adhesive behind the snowflakes are sufficient to hold this to the card front.

After I took this picture, I decided against dabbing bits of Shimmery Crystal Effects on the tree; the rhinestone at the top will have to be enough to convey the season. These 55 cards (and more) are going to a local assisted living home and need to be completed ASAP!

Poinsettia JOY

This was the first card I designed for November’s Holiday Stamp-a-Stack to Go. Because participants were not required to have the featured stamp set, the retiring Wrapped in Christmas, if I could create a card just with die cuts, so much the better. Of course, this card took some time for me to prep! But I love the way it turned out and have been working on other projects using just red and white.

No stamping on this card, just the beautiful Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper and those Playful Alphabet die cuts. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

If you haven’t seen the retiring Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper in real life, well, it is quite beautiful. The pattern is flocked and the background is frosted, heavy vellum. It reminds me of a burnout fabric. Get it if you can!

I didn’t want to overwhelm the card with too much, so I used a pattern from the retiring ‘Tis the Season DSP (the same piece I used for my NOEL pleated rosette garland) to balance it. Participants got a card kit with one piece of the poinsettia pattern and one of holly. I’m saving scraps from the remaining pattern (all I have left) for something special coming up.

It may be difficult to see, but these scalloped circles from the Tasteful Labels dies have some embossed detail just inside the edge. So pretty! I think it makes these letters a little less severe. This is why I look really closely at new die sets. Occasionally — as in this case — I may not even buy the bundle if the stamp set isn’t something I love or need but the dies are interesting.
