Flowering Vine: Deepest sympathy

Just the other day, we needed a card expressing sympathy for the death of a friend. I knew I had several cards in my stash; when I find a design suitable for expressing sympathy, I make several so I don’t have to scramble to create something appropriate.

This card, from February camps, is simple enough to make in multiples — even with the seemingly millions of tiny pieces generated from this die. After dozens and dozens of valentines and camp cards, my studio floor is pretty … colorful. But the results are worth it.

Knowing that we have only slightly more than two weeks for Sale-A-Bration is making me kind of hysterical. How will I stamp without this Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper (free with a qualifying purchase during SAB)? It makes the drama of this card oh so simple.

Recently I have been buying only the stamp set or only the dies from bundles. It’s not that I don’t like Vine Design, but I was just stunned at the beauty of these dies and knew I could use them by themselves. Watch for another camp card using the Flowering Vine dies soon.

Flower & Field: Stripes

Our projects for last month’s All-Occasions Stamp-a-Stack to Go featured the wonderful Flower & Field Designers Series Paper from the January-February Sale-A-Bration Brochure. I saw a card by Melissa Davies, created in response to a sketch challenge, that I loved and used as a starting point for one of our cards.

Those stripes are two sides of the same piece of paper. Stampin’ Up! did a great job with coordination with this paper pack! It was a delight to work with — I’ll share more soon.

I am crazy about this set of stitched dies! They remind me so much of a Mary Engelbreit design — so fun and whimsical! While this card may have had 14 pieces (perhaps not the typical stamp-a-stack card!), I love the way it turned out.

Oval Occasions: Time to celebrate

Made for each other? The super-cute Oval Occasions bundle in the Stampin’ Up! January-June 2021 Mini Catalog has not only line images designed for the Double Oval Punch, but also sentiments that are perfect by themselves. You may know this, but when you look at the stamp sets in a catalog, Stampin’ Up! will shade the images that are made to be cut with a die or punch. However, look past the shading and imagine the standalone uses for this sweet set, like tags and note cards, or use another shape to crop! (And on the flip side, don’t forget about making a template so you can see what other images fit the punch!)

In the January stamp camps, we made this note card that uses two of the 13 images. So glad that we have Granny Apple Green in the Sale-A-Bration Oh So Ombre Designer Series Paper — FREE with qualifying purchase! That product is hugely popular (and it’s no surprise).

You could certainly color these little floral images with our Watercolor Pencils, but I chose to use Stampin’ Blends. Just a tiny swipe will do! You may think the product list below is pretty extensive for such a little card, but for some reason I decided to use all kinds of Stampin’ Blends colors!

Punch Party: Sending you smiles

Pretty sure this is a first for me. Yesterday I listened to a message on my cell from my sister-in-law, whose birthday is next week. She read out the contents of a card she had just received from me, thanking her for the Culver’s gift card she gave me. Uh-oh. That card was meant to go to a third-grader in our reading group; she got the birthday card for my SIL, and is no doubt totally confused! My SIL is sending her my TY card and, in case the birthday card never arrives, I wished her effusive birthday greetings.

Although I had this card ready, I would never have sent it to my SIL, who dislikes yellow. (It’s funny how many people I know who feel the same! On the other hand, I’ve recently been recalling with fondness the color of the kitchen in our old house: Pear.)

The sentiment panel is stamped with a set that’s easy to miss in the Jan-Feb Sale-A-Bration Brochure. Punch Party has 16 images to fit the new Double Oval Punch (from the Jan-Jun 2021 Mini Catalog) and the Rectangular Postage Stamp Punch. But there’s an error on page 17 of the SAB brochure: The shading on the stamp set shows that the darling heart border can be cut out with the Heart Punch Pack, but this is not the case. Two sentiments in the set, with Heart and Baby, will fit the Heart Punch Pack. On this sentiment panel, both the Bumblebee outline and the words are from Punch Party.

Isn’t this patterned paper cute? The Dandy Garden 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper seems a bit somber, at first glance, but here’s this adorable print! I made a mistake and said that this embossing folder was part of the Dandy Garden suite, but it actually “belongs” to the Ornate Garden Suite in the Annual Catalog.

So there you have it, one mistake after another!

Art Gallery: Thank you

I thought you might want to see the note card I stamped after I demonstrated the Blending Brushes. I inadvertently used a retired decorative mask in the video and here; the link below is to the only set we currently carry, Basic Pattern Decorative Masks.

I love these Decorative Masks because they provide so much for such a reasonable price! Whether you are using Stampin’ Sponges, Sponge Daubers, Sponge Brayers, or the new Blending Brushes, these stencils offer an easy way to create an interesting background. And let’s not forget Embossing Paste for a background with texture!

You will need to make sure the card underneath and the mask on top cannot move when you are applying the color. I use painter’s tape that I make even lower tack by pressing against my jeans a few times.

Flower & Field: Stripes

If there’s one thing that’s constant in my stamping area, it’s lots of scraps! Don’t be shocked, but I have been known to actually throw scraps in my recycling bag if I don’t think I can use them. That’s so different than when I started stamping; then I’d save every little bit to punch out a little circle, a little star, or a little heart. Because “you never know when you’ll need it.” But of course, the storage issue just becomes overwhelming!

But I love the Flower & Field Designer Series Paper from the January-February 2021 Sale-A-Bration Brochure. OK, I’ll admit when I first saw it I thought of my grandmother’s aprons. But in real life — wow! I love every pattern.

This DSP was featured in January’s All-Occasions Stamp-a-Stack to Go, so I had more scraps than usual. This card is simple, but so fresh and pretty for a birthday this snowy week!

There are two exceptions to the Flower & Field DSP here: a strip of Flirty Flamingo and one from the True Love DSP pack in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog. I assembled the strips on a larger piece of Basic White, then die cut it. This eliminates the need to make sure the edges are perfectly even.

It’s very fun to put these strips together. Do you have a stash you could raid for this kind of card?

Kangaroo & Company: Love you much

Are you working on your Valentine’s Day cards yet? My valentines go to a different group of people than Christmas cards — but there are a lot of people on the VDay list! This card (one of a kind) will go to a young boy I see most days. I think he believes the sentiment here, but it never hurts to state it!

Kangaroo & Company | The Kangaroo die that cuts the outline here has a slit so that a variety of items can be put into the pouch! So clever! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

I hope you can see this little detail: at the top of the kangaroo’s pouch, there is a slit so that you can insert a variety of items. This clever aspect of the die means this set is suitable for birthday, love, and spring — and of course, a new baby. If you don’t adhere it, pulling out the insert could reveal a message; I punched out my message with a retired punch instead. This is a super set!

We colored the kangaroo with just a Light Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends marker, going over some areas to provide shading. Try that technique! Just because there is a light and dark color in a Stampin’ Blends Combo doesn’t mean you’ll always use both for shading.

For the sky and grass, we experimented with the new Blending Brushes. If you’ve been unable to achieve soft, gentle shading using a Stampin’ Sponge, these tools are for you! The first time I used one, I was convinced my sponging days were behind me!

Sweet Strawberry: Happy birthday

With most of the All-Occasions Stamp-a-Stack to Go kits out the door, I can relax and get back to “normal.” It sort of surprises me that after periods of intense preparation (thousands of pieces cut and kitted), one of the first things I want to do is stamp! As I approach my 16th anniversary as a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator, I can honestly say that I have never lost the joy of stamping.

And speaking of joy, that’s what Sweet Strawberry in the January-June 2021 Mini Catalog gives me! The images are charming, the sentiments perfect, and — available as a Sale-A-Bration freebie — the coordinating paper and Berry Blessings stamp set are simply the whipped cream on the shortcake! (Those two products are a January-February Sale-A-Bration bundle and not available separately.)

This concept of splitting a circle with Designer Series Paper came from a demonstrator outside the United States whose name I can’t recall. She used this circle as the top of a jar, I think, which was so sweet. I had to put it on a card front for the January stamp camps!

The circle was cut from DSP; after stamping a Basic White scrap, I trimmed the top and then cut the lower arc of the circle. I love this look!

Here you can clearly see the shading that is built into the DistINKtiveâ„¢ image. You don’t have to stamp the strawberry in two steps, of course, but it’s so easy and effective!

The smaller flower is cut with the Strawberry Builder punch; the Small Bloom punch cuts the larger one.

Forever Fern: Happy Birthday

My busy days continue, but because today is a holiday, I have an extra dose of free time to work on the All-Occasions Stamp-a-Stack to Go kits. I knew I had this card waiting in the wings to share with you — another of the “winter edition” Forever Fern birthday cards:

Forever Fern | Happy Thoughts | Forever Fern is a stamp set (and bundle) that is versatile for any occasion. This one is for a January birthday. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

I shared a landscape version of this a few weeks ago in Blackberry Bliss; I like it in Merry Merlot better.

I forget how important little spatters are on a card. They are so subtle — here, in Sahara Sand — but provide a lot of interest. Ditto for the hint of gold in those ferny things.
