Color & Contour: Hello

This spring I have been busy with many things! Stamping has been one of them, but also gardening, volunteering, walking to complete a StepBet challenge, and preparing for the June 10 garage sale. Doesn’t look like much, when I categorize my time like that, but there you have it!

I’ll share some current projects with you to begin with, then perhaps look back over my shoulder. We made this card at May stamp camps, and I love the way it turned out!

The Basic Borders dies were on my first order when the Stampin’ Up! 2021-2022 Annual Catalog went live a few weeks ago. Tilting the pointed border die gives this a playful feel, perfect with this Ice Cream Corner striped paper. I considered adding something to the center of the flower, but everything looked too heavy.

It’s hard to see because of the embossing, but there’s a stitched edge. And because I’ve been experimenting with taking pictures of my cards in natural light (inside the back porch) to try to obtain truer colors, the shadows cast by pieces that are popped up can be sort of dramatic!

ABC: Spring wreath

Stampers were surprised this month when they found supplies for only three cards at camp. Why? One of our projects was ABC: Anything But a Card!

We don’t often make ABCs at camp, but I couldn’t resist this idea for a wreath using an embroidery hoop:

Pierced Blooms | This floral wreath is fun to put together -- after quite a bit of die cutting, that is! It's hanging on my bathroom wall for this picture, but it has a seasonal home on the knob of a cabinet in my craft area. We started with a 4″ wooden embroidery hoop, available at big box craft stores or online. Flowers and leaves were affixed to the hoop with Glue Dots or Stampin’ Dimensionals.

There are 18 die cuts on my wreath. It’s easy enough to lay out the scraps and cut 4 or 5 different pieces at once (even without a magnetic “plate” on the Cut & Emboss machine), so the cutting goes fairly quickly.

I hung the wreath in our bathroom for these pictures; as much as I like it against the yellow wall, it will live for a few months against the Pool Party wall in my craft area.

I am so sorry that this tulle ribbon is no longer available (but happy I have a spool tucked away).

Pretty Perennials: Happy birthday stripes

Have you overlooked this bundle from the Stampin’ Up! January-June 2021 Mini Catalog? You’ll find Pretty Perennials on page 31. Check out all those stamps and dies — this is the bundle that just won’t quit!

I was inspired by LeeAnn Greff to create this card, based on her series of “strips” cards. How fun to experiment with thin strips of card stock (these are just 1/4″ wide)!

Now, it looks like there’s a piece of gray under the “birthday” piece (which was just rough cut after stamping on a scrap), but it’s just a shadow. Stampers looked in vain for that piece in their envelope!

Layering the floral elements provide an opportunity for all kinds of variations! I kept it simple because there was plenty of color in the stripes. The flower center is my favorite Playing with Patterns Resin Dot. In this case, I wanted to use the Coastal Cabana dot in the pack, but remember that these are so easy to color with your Stampin’ Blends. Because of this, I always have a supply at the ready!

Beautiful Friendship, new and old

Today I’m saying goodbye to one of my favorite floral sets, Beautiful Friendship, and hello again to one of my favorite colors, Wisteria Wonder. I’m making a variation of this birthday card this evening at a card-making event at a local church; my stampin’ friends there are hoping to begin a card ministry. Blessings abound with that effort, as I hear over and over!

Beautiful Friendship | I never tire of two-step stamping, whether it's adding shading to an image or another element, like these leaves. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The colors here are way off, as Wisteria Wonder is a deeper blue-gray purple. So pretty! Seeing it reminded me of the décor in my bedroom before I was married; it was the first time I had coordinated bedding and window treatments.

That little speckle image is from Forever Fern. It’s the perfect filler.

This card also has a sneak peek in the stitched scallop panel. It’s from a die set called Scalloped Contours — a must-have! — from the Stampin’ Up! 2021-2022 Annual Catalog that debuts on May 5.

Triple butterfly

What an intense few weeks I have had. When the retired products list was released, I was determined to pull and price most retiring products and reorganize my stamping area. Because of COVID, we did not have a retired products garage sale last summer, and so I didn’t update my area last year! Things were a mess.

(Please note that the list referenced above is not current, so if you want to check availability, you can see items retired from the Stampin’ Up! 2020-2021 Annual Catalog in my online store.)

Unfortunately, the result of having to make decisions on stamp sets and other products I have loved using had a seriously negative effect on my well-being. There was a great deal of self-pity downstairs.

OK, this is boring, and I’m sorry to virtually cry on your shoulder. Instead, let me share with you yet another butterfly card, this one inspired by Erica Cerwin.

Brilliant Wings | "You can never go wrong with a triplet!" This is a case in point. Thank you, Erica Cerwin, for the inspiration! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The background here is the stunning Butterfly Bijou Designer Series Paper, and you can see a strip of it inside the card, too. I’m sorry that it’s already gone. I used a complementary pattern behind the die-cut butterflies; the color coordination amongst Stampin’ Up! products is so important! I hope you can see the Vellum panel with its pretty edges behind the squares.

I’m so happy to be holding stamp camps this week, especially because I’ll be stamping with some people for the first time in 14 months. But no, nothing feels “normal” quite yet.

True Love floral bouquet

The only March stamp camp project that did not involve butterflies was this one. I designed it while experimenting with coloring the floral patterns in the True Love Designer Series Paper. (You can see other examples here and here.)

I was glad to get one more camp card made with Purple Posy before this 2019-2021 In Color retires. In fact, some items in this color are already gone. You can see retiring items in my online store here.

I don’t recall a single complaint from stampers about having to fussy cut these flowers! Perhaps I’ll give them another challenge in April …

Registration now open for Sweet Ice Cream to Go!

I’ll admit that we were a little excited when our local frozen custard and ice cream drive-in establishments opened a few weeks ago — us and the dog who lives across the street! I don’t eat those kinds of treats as much as I want to. That was my strategy for surviving the shutdown this time last year, and it was not successful. In any way.

So I’ll be content to enjoy my pops and cones on paper, thanks very much.

Perhaps you’ll join me with my latest kit to go — another collaboration with my stampin’ friend, Jennifer Taylor. In your Sweet Ice Cream to Go kit, you’ll receive almost everything you’ll need to make 12 cards suitable for kids or adults (two each of six designs).

You’ll be using the Sweet Ice Cream bundle, pictured here, to complete some of your cards. This bundle is currently not able to be ordered; it is scheduled to be back in inventory the week of April 5.

There are many more details you’ll want to know, and you can find them all in the Sweet Ice Cream to Go registration form. Questions? I’m only a call, text, or email away (you’ll see my contact info on the form).

Let’s get ready to celebrate spring!

White butterflies

Three out of four March camp cards used the Butterfly Bouquet cling stamp. I love using Vellum Cardstock over patterned paper, especially when a bit of pattern shows past the Vellum. These butterflies — stamped just once in VersaMark, then embossed — seem to float above the paper. We used the Stamparatus to get a good impression of the images.

I’m sorry that the Butterfly Bijou paper is already gone, but patterns that provide a similar effect can be found in other packs (like the Dandy Garden 6″ x 6″ DSP).

A short length of this ribbon was secured behind the sentiment and wrapped around the right edge. No need to use it where it doesn’t show! Inside the card is a liner of Basic White with a sentiment (also from Best Year) stamped in Terracotta Tile, a cousin to Calypso Coral and a retiring color.
