Sweet as a Peach: Hello

I have told stampers many times, “Don’t apologize, don’t explain!” When something doesn’t go as planned, just leave it alone. But on this card, I never even realized my mistake. Do you see it?

Right! I adhered the “hole reinforcement” at the top of the tag upside-down! Can’t imagine what I was thinking, but let’s just keep it to ourselves, shall we?

I love that this set has both peaches and blossoms that fit on this stem. I embossed the tag with dots for a little playfulness, and couldn’t resist another background with the cool Stitched Greenery die! It will look amazing with autumn cards, and although I hate to rush the season, I have one of those for my August camps in a few weeks.

Angles and triangles

This card, inspired by Jaimie Babarczy, is a snap to make. The hardest part is deciding which paper to use! I used one of my favorite recipes: black and white with a pop of bright. Please, when you qualify for Stampin’ Rewards (with a workshop of at least $150 in product), take a look at this giant paper pack! Pattern Party has 4 each of 12 different designs; the back of each pattern is a design in black and white.

I think this is a great guy card, and I have it in an envelope for the great guy I have in mind!

This sentiment is from Sweet Ice Cream. I use it over and over again. It’s perfect for this card because you can see to stamp it at exactly the correct angle.

Festive Foliage: Merry Christmas

No, I’m not celebrating Christmas yet — I’m just getting ready for the first Jingle Jump of 2021 in a few weeks! Strangely, I’m not even playing Christmas music as I design the six cards for August’s JJ; I usually do that to get in the spirit, and then may never completely discontinue the tunes until well into the new year. I’m weird that way!

Festive Foliage | Evergreen Elegance | Love to color? This is one of the ways to use this "background" stamp! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

This is not one of the Jingle Jump designs — all that coloring makes a beautiful card, but not in 10 minutes! That’s my goal for the JJ cards, and I think I nailed it this time.

My secondary goal was to use holiday products from the 2021-2022 Annual Catalog, but I bent that rule a tiny bit. Of course, I had my Annual Catalog products much earlier than the July-December Mini Catalog and August-September Sale-A-Bration items, so that meant I got an extra early start.

Have you reserved your space at the August Jingle Jump?  (Remember, if I have not received your payment, you are not yet registered!)  Here’s the schedule at my home in DeKalb:

Session 1:  Friday, August 6 — 1:00-5:00 p.m. (come any time)
Session 2:  Friday, August 6 — 6:30-9:30 p.m. (come any time)
Session 3:  Saturday, August 7 — 9:00 a.m. till noon (come any time)

Registration closes next Wednesday, July 28, or when capacity is reached.  Click here for more information and to register online.

Next week is camp week!

I’ve had an intensely busy week, but I am nearly ready for the July stamp camps next week. All I need to know is if you will be there! Here is the schedule — most likely the same each month, beginning with the second Monday:

Monday, July 12 (2nd Monday) — 6:15-8:45 p.m. — at Pat’s home (548 S 2nd St, Rochelle).  Host is Marci (code CWZ4NNWZ).
Tuesday, July 13 — 6:30-9:00 p.m. — at my home (322 Fairmont Dr, DeKalb).
Wednesday, July 14 — 6:30-9:00 p.m. — at my home (322 Fairmont Dr, DeKalb).
Thursday, July 15 — 12:30-3:00 p.m. — at my home (322 Fairmont Dr, DeKalb).

I’m happy to say that stampers next week will be receiving their Stampin’ Up! August-September Sale-A-Bration brochure and huge July-December 2021 Mini Catalog! (Never mind the dates: both publications will go live on August 3.)

Unless you’ve already let me know, please contact me by Sunday if and when you’ll be stamping next week with us — just leave a comment!

Hand-Penned Petals: With deepest sympathy

This is a card I have made in several variations. I love this floral image! I think I’ve gotten past (mostly) the anguish over stained photopolymer stamps. Mostly. And this outline image is stained! I have the advantage of being able to thoroughly clean stamps immediately after using them, spraying them first with diluted Simple Green, then (after a brief wait) scrubbing with Dawn dish soap. That gets a lot of ink off — and, of course, red rubber stamps usually require nothing more than a press and swipe on my Simply Shammy.

Hand-Penned Petals | Super versatile and beautiful! I use a variety of techniques to color this image. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

For this camp card, we used the “filler” stamps to add color to the leaves and flowers. You can tell that the fillers only roughly match the outlines. No matter how you turn the stamp, it just won’t match perfectly. This can be bothersome if you’re a perfectionist, or you can embrace the imperfection! Stampers agreed that the overall effect is charming!

Peaceful Moments is a sentiment set that is essential in my stamping world; I’m happy that so many stampers earning a free set through Burgin Bucks choose it!

I did struggle with the orientation of this die-cut image, and on some of my cards it’s the opposite direction. Hard to say which way is “up”!

In May, we also used this same floral image with a different coloring technique. It’s all the rage now — can you guess what it is? Stay tuned for details!

Jingle Jump is back!

Registration for the 2021 August Jingle Jump is at the bottom of this page — keep reading!

It’s back, just the way we love it!  I’m so excited to be creating holiday cards in a group setting, using all sorts of holiday sets — including ones that are new!

So, get a super “jump on your jingle” with this popular holiday “stamp-a-stack.”  Come and make 10 Christmas/holiday cards (several of the same or a variety) for just $20 (envelopes included).  There will be six different designs to choose from.  The cards are designed to be completed quickly (in about 10 minutes or so) and have lots of interest but not a lot of fuss, in order to keep the cost low.  These cards can be mailed with no additional postage.  This event is perfect for the new stamper, as you will work at your own pace–invite a friend to join you!

Session 1:  Friday, August 6 — 1:00-5:00 p.m. (come any time)
Session 2:  Friday, August 6 — 6:30-9:30 p.m. (come any time)
Session 3:  Saturday, August 7 — 9:00-noon (come any time)

Place:  My DeKalb home (322 Fairmont Dr)

Note that registration is limited to 10 stampers at each session; registration will be closed when session is full.

Need more than ten cards? Each additional card you make is $2, payable at the camp. I’ll supply envelopes and Stampin’ Dimensionals, but you need to bring your own scissors and adhesive (I suggest bringing several types).

Paid registration of $20 must be received by Wednesday, July 28. I’ll just need your name and contact information in addition to your check. You may also register online via PayPal below. Please note that if I do not have your payment, you are not registered for this event.

Sweet Strawberry: You sweet thing

Did you see the full moon last night? It was cloudy here, but Wednesday’s night sky was stunning! It’s the Strawberry Moon, and in honor of the strawberry-picking season, I made this birthday card. My inspiration was a project from months ago designed by Debra Harrison. I used what I had!

This gingham paper is from a couple of years back. It’s always reminded me of my mother, who had yellow gingham wallpaper in one of her kitchens. I don’t remember any strawberries, but I think she would have liked this card nonetheless!

The yellow is deeper than this picture shows; this rendering is a little too McD for me. But checks and scallops — how great is that? The retired Small Bloom Punch cuts out the larger flower, but you could actually simply stamp it on the scalloped sentiment panel (or fussy cut it) if you don’t have the punch.

Sweet Ice Cream: Treat Yourself

I never get tired of using tags on cards, and I’m crazy about Tailor Made Tags, new dies in the Stampin’ Up! 2021-2022 Annual Catalog. This set of dies has four sizes each of two different stitched tag shapes — one shape more curvy than the other. In addition, there are dies that cut out hole reinforcements (several at one time). This card from my recent Sweet Ice Cream to Go Kit uses the largest angular tag:

I didn’t use a reinforcement here, because the knotted ribbon would have mostly hidden it. Instead, I just used a Glue Dot under the ribbon to secure it to a Stampin’ Dimensional underneath.

This is an ideal card for holding a thank-you gift card to an ice cream establishment. Do you have a good one in your area? Ollie’s Frozen Custard has been here for years and is a crazy-popular place to go for a treat. I’m amazed at the drive-through line in the middle of the afternoon!
