Stamp Review Crew: Happiness Abounds

Welcome to our regularly scheduled Stamp Review Crew blog hop. Are you new here? We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who want to show you how much you can do with one stamp set. We will feature one set with each blog hop, and each stop on the hop will show you a different idea using that set! Just follow the links in each blog post to go to the next or previous blog or, if you want to see a list of all participants (even after today), click the banner, above.

Today’s featured set is Happiness Abounds. In addition to the lovely botanical images, this set has wonderful sentiments. Those are reasons to love this set! I am confident Jay Soriano of Mitosu Crafts has created something marvelous for you, I just can’t see it yet!

In the United States, we are celebrating a national holiday today. But I know that across the world, someone, somewhere is celebrating a birthday! So my card takes note of that special day with an explosion of color and texture:

Happiness Abounds | The flower on this card was created with water and ink refills. No two versions will be the same, but you must try this "reinker spread" technique! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Because July is World Watercolor Month, I chose to use a watercolor technique to color this bloom. Reinker spread allows you to color an image with varying intensity. It is simple:

  • Start with an image that’s been stamped in VersaMark and heat embossed. You might as well make more than one, because you’ll want to try this again right away!
  • Using a water brush, like one of our Water Painters, wet the cardstock (I used Shimmery White here) so that there are no dry spots. You should see the water “pooling” in each of the areas surrounded by embossing. These are the wells.
  • On a palette, a plastic lid, or a clear block, place two drops of ink refill, separated. One drop will remain undiluted; add several drops of water to the other ink drop to lighten the color.
  • Pick up some diluted ink with the (wet) brush, then touch the brush to one of the wells. Do not brush the color on; note how the color naturally and irregularly spreads (if it’s not spreading, the area is not wet enough).
  • Continue working around the image, making each well different (avoid a uniform appearance). Go back and add a small amount of undiluted ink to the still-wet wells for further shading.
  • Let your image dry. I place my damp-ish work in between a couple thicknesses of copy paper, place it in a book, and sit on it to make sure the image flattens out. Of course, a curled effect might be just what you’re hoping for!

Here’s a closeup of my flower:

Ready for more fun with that extra sample you made? Try more than one ink color!

I’ve included the list of ingredients at the end of this post, but it’s time to move on to With a Bow on Top, the blog of Lou Kitzelman. Have fun there!

Hello Ladybug: Greatest Wish

This card has been on my desk for weeks and weeks. As you probably know, Hello Ladybug is in the new Stampin’ Up! 2022-2023 Annual Catalog, a “welcome back” product from the mini catalog retiring this Thursday. Note that it is not offered as a bundle in the new catalog, so time is running out to take advantage of the 10% discount on this stamp set and the coordinating Ladybug Builder Punch!

Hello Ladybug | I took some artistic liberties with this ladybug! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Aren’t these wings adorable? I simply scored and folded a strip of Vellum, then inserted it into the punch so the fold was visible within the window before punching it. That way, you are punching two layers of Vellum that have a fold at the top. A bit of liquid adhesive close to the crease is enough to secure the wings to the body.

Hello Ladybug | I took some artistic liberties with this ladybug! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

I took artistic license with this ladybug, punching the ladybug once in Real Red and again in Basic Black. I cut off the head (!) of the black bug and flat adhered it over the red one. Your bug may vary!

The two retired items on this card are the Tasteful Textile 3D embossing folder and Ornate Frames dies. Both are very useful in my craft area!

Registration for Jingle Jump is now open!

Registration for the 2022 August Jingle Jump is at the bottom of this page — keep reading!

Is this the year you’ll send out handmade holiday greetings?  Then get a “jump on your jingle” with this popular holiday stamp-a-stack!  Come and make 10 Christmas/holiday cards (several of the same or a variety) for just $22.  There will be six different designs to choose from in different styles—you’ll love the stamps from the new Mini Catalog—and each time a Jingle Jump is offered, the designs will be new and not repeated!  The cards are designed to be completed in about 10 minutes or so and have lots of interest but not a lot of fuss, in order to keep the cost low.  These cards can be mailed with no additional postage, and most (or all) will have inside sentiments.  This event is perfect for the new stamper, as you will work at your own pace—invite a friend to join you!

Session 1:  Friday, August 5 — 1:00-5:00 p.m. (come any time)
Session 2:  Friday, August 5 — 6:30-9:30 p.m. (come any time)
Session 3:  Saturday, August 6 — 9:00-noon (come any time)

Place:  My DeKalb home (322 Fairmont Dr)

Note that registration is limited to 10 stampers at each session; registration will be closed by deadline or when session is full.

Need more than ten cards? Each additional card you make is $2, payable at the camp. I’ll supply envelopes and Stampin’ Dimensionals, but you need to bring your own scissors and adhesive (I suggest bringing several types).

Paid registration of $22 must be received by Wednesday, July 27. I’ll just need your name and contact information in addition to your check, or register online below. Please note that if I do not have your payment, you are not registered for this event.

Full of Love: Sending Love

Along with Amazing Year, the new set Full of Love was tops on my wish list to order from the Stampin’ Up! 2022-2023 Annual Catalog. I could hardly wait to get out my Stampin’ Blends and start creating something beautiful!

Jaimie Babarczy offered inspiration for my birthday card for a stamping buddy, but I ended up with something very different. You know how that goes, right?

Full of Love | Feel like coloring? The images in this set are made for it! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Coloring makes me happy, and this new set makes coloring easy. I don’t have to color leaves with three greens, or those little flowers with two shades of purple, but why not?

And while I’m at it, I’ll pop up the envelope, give the Flirty Flamingo panel some texture, use a piece of printed vellum on top, and add a strip of polka dots between. It’s all about the details!

Charming Sentiments: Everything Wonderful

This “angled cut” layout is so simple! Start with hand-colored Designer Series Paper, as I did here, or any 4″ x 3½” piece of your favorite DSP (I trimmed it down to 3⅞” x 3½” to allow for the black panel). Although you could add twine, ribbon, or other embellishments, those are totally optional!

Charming Sentiments | One of my favorite layouts is this "angled cut" one. It's created with the Basic Borders die set. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

I’ve mentioned before that I use a template to mark the DSP so my cuts are consistent. If you want to use the same angle as I have here, create a template with a retired piece of card stock — a bright color so you don’t misplace it on your work table! Mark 2½” on the left edge and about 3″ (or even a bit less) on the right edge. The point of the die will be 1½” from the right edge. Once you get your template the way you want, you’ll mark your DSP at the left and right sides and the point, and position the die so it hits those three marks.

Naturally, you can choose different measurements for your “angled cut,” but it’s easiest and fastest for me if I use the same template each time.

Charming Sentiments | One of my favorite layouts is this "angled cut" one. It's created with the Basic Borders die set. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Full disclosure: I stamped and embossed the sentiment after I had the other pieces adhered to the card front! This was a risky move. I originally thought I’d use a separate piece for the sentiment, but I wanted to keep the drama of the Basic Black and so it made more sense to emboss it in white. These stamps are photopolymer, so it was a simple matter to get this straight.
