Joyful Flurry: Joyful Wishes

You’ve been asking me to post cards from the Jingle Jump earlier this month, so here’s my favorite. Well, maybe. OK, one of my favorites.

This card is pretty dramatic, thanks to the stunning “pierced” snowflake. Just when I think Stampin’ Up! can’t make a more beautiful snowflake, the July-December 2022 Mini Catalog comes along, and … wow.

Joyful Flurry | Frosted Flurry dies | There is so much to this pierced snowflake -- just stunning! So I kept it pretty simple. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The silver mat may seem a little extravagant — so much is hidden! — until you notice it peeking from under the lifted “arms” of the snowflake. Who’s to say whether that effect will last through the mail, but it pleases this sender to see it! I added a small silver snowflake with a rhinestone. Note that the Silver Foil I used is retired, but one of the pieces in the Brushed Silver Foil 12″ x 12″ Specialty Pack is pretty much the same — and you can choose it for free with a $50 product purchase during Sale-A-Bration, but it ends August 31!

Drama is also provided via the Evening Evergreen card base and ink. Here’s a (very early) reminder: Evening Evergreen is an In Color that will retire at the end of this Annual Catalog, on May 1, 2023. Make yourself a note for January or February to consider ordering at least one ink refill and pack of card stock (and earn Sale-A-Bration freebies at that time!).

Soft Seedlings: Hello

We are on the verge of autumn, although we have had some pretty warm days, and not very many trees are starting their color change. I know there are people who are wild to get into the pumpkin spice thing, but I am not ready to give up on summer quite yet. Still, I’ll give the season change a little nudge with this simple card.

This beautiful set (no bundle) has a lovely maple leaf and “spinners,” as we call the seed pods. This is a Distinktive set and, as you know, that means the shading for the images is built into the stamps.

After stamping the images with Crumb Cake ink, I added color with Watercolor Pencils — Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, and Pumpkin Pie. To blend the colors, I swiped Wink of Stella over the leaf and spinners. It’s kind of amazing to see the transformation! I stamped the spinner-only image inside a few times, leaving room to handwrite a greeting.

Finally, a tree update from our front yard. Yesterday we were due to have work done on the birch to strengthen it and encourage new growth, but the team leader determined that the tree’s health had declined since he consulted with us a few weeks ago and it cannot be saved. So now we will make a decision about a replacement tree.

Perched in a Tree: Here for You

Although the Perched in a Tree bundle features images and dies all about aspen trees, I’ll use a little artistic license and think of this die, especially, as portraying a birch tree. Our birch in the front yard, which makes it easy to identify our house as you come up the hill, is seriously ailing; this week the tree people will be implementing Phase 2 to save it. We were not of one mind here whether it should be removed (me) or nursed back to health (him), so it was good to have a professional opinion. (Please note that my seemingly harsh attitude does not apply to ailing humans!)

This card was heavily inspired by a sample on page 46 of the Stampin’ Up! July-December 2022 Mini Catalog, but I used the now-retired Sale-A-Bration Pool Party & Soft Sea Foam Cards & Envelopes for the card base.

Perched in a Tree | Aspen Tree | The dies in this bundle are absolutely amazing. Just a smudge of light gray on the bark adds so much! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The sentiments in this set are beautiful, but I used my fall-back “Let’s celebrate you” from Celebrate Sunflowers for my husband’s birthday card.

Those little smudges of color on the tree trunks and branches were made with a light application of Granite Gray using a Sponge Dauber. They add so much! Also adding a lot are the many Stampin’ Dimensionals (or pieces) behind the die cut.

I couldn’t have done it without you!

Saturday afternoon we were in the middle of getting ready for weekend birthday festivities (still ongoing) when an unexpected, bulky padded envelope arrived from Stampin’ Up! — and I just had to stop and rip it open. Here’s what was inside:

Exciting! But of course, as much as I love containers, I did have to open this sweet little box:

This is my pin for achieving $400,000 in career sales. So when I say “I couldn’t have done it without you,” I mean it quite literally! If I had been my own best customer, buying product just for my own stamping, well, I think I might have hung up my apron long ago.

I can’t imagine how many stamp sets, ink pads, packs of card stock, and other Stampin’ Up! items have been ordered under #98941 (my demo ID) over the past 17+ years. Without you, I never would have earned two incentive trips, cherished your hugs and fellowship, and enjoyed the “tap tap tap”of stamp on ink pad again and again!

It’s impossible to thank you enough, but I will give it a try:

  • I want you to be able to earn an item or two while Sale-A-Bration is still in progress, so I will be offering this only through August 31, 2022, and only to those of you in North America. Note that two Sale-A-Bration items have sold out: Pool Party & Soft Sea Foam Cards & Envelopes and Tree Lot Dies.
  • Your order must use Host Code RP67J9TE (click the Add Host Code link towards the top right corner of the shopping cart — the bag with the heart on it — then click and paste my Host Code RP67J9TE).
  • When your order reaches $50 before S/H and tax, I will send you a package of Festive Pearls, as seen on page 31 of the July-December 2022 Mini Catalog:
159963
  • When your order reaches $100 before S/H and tax, in addition to the Festive Pearls, I will send you a package of Gold Holly Leaves, as seen on page 21 of the July-December 2022 Mini Catalog:
156311
  • Unless inventory changes, I will mail your gifts to you the week of September 19 (currently the Festive Pearls are not available, but are scheduled to be in stock the week of September 12).
  • Of course you will be earning Burgin Bucks on your order as well.

Whether or not you place an order with me now (or ever again!), please accept my heartfelt thanks for your support over the years. It continues to mean so much to me!

Amazing Phrasing: Another Year Around the Sun

This birthday card from the recent Stamp Review Crew blog hop is pretty simple (as you can tell from the product list below), except perhaps for the aligning of the stamps (two of them) along the curve! And yet, that’s part of this card’s charm, I think.

Amazing Phrasing | This July-August 2022 Sale-A-Bration offering lives up to its name! I took advantage of the flexibility of photopolymer to shape the words on the front of the card. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Have you ever intentionally curved photopolymer stamps? It sometimes happens unintentionally when new stampers are affixing a photopolymer stamp to a block. I learned how to do it like this:

  • Peel the stamp off the window sheet or stamp case. This may stretch it out of shape.
  • Put the stamp face down (i.e., flat side up) on your Grid Paper.
  • Let the stamp “relax” (returning to its original shape)
  • Press the acrylic block against it.

If you hold the stamp in your fingers to put it on a block, I have found chances are much greater that you will accidentally change its shape.

As with my other Amazing Phrasing card earlier this week, I placed the stamps in a curve on a big block (H), then adjusted them as necessary.

No, your eyes do not deceive you: there is shading in the corner of the So Saffron layer, in order to suggest the sun.

Amazing Phrasing: Woo Hoo!

I mailed this card shortly after the Stamp Review Crew’s July-August 2022 Sale-A-Bration blog hop, so I must rely on my imperfect memory to provide a description! I hope I will not omit important info.

As I wrote for the hop, I took advantage of the flexibility of photopolymer to shape the words along the Sweet Sorbet edge that I had cut with the Basic Border dies. I “bent” the stamp at an angle, then compared it to the edge, adjusting the angle as necessary.

Amazing Phrasing | Don't forget that photopolymer stamps, like those in this set, can be curved to fit a shaped edge. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

After I heat-embossed the words, I decided the Sweet Sorbet panel was too plain and could benefit from some texture. Running it through a folder at this point was pretty risky, and indeed the embossing did crack just a tiny bit, but not enough to be horrible. (At least, I didn’t hear from the recipient of this card that she was insulted by its quality!)

See? You don’t even notice the minor cracking!

The little stitched tag is from the Happy Forest die set, but instead of threading the ribbon and/or twine through the tag’s hole, I trimmed off the top of the tag and slipped it under the knot. But that was after I fussy cut and adhered those teeny, tiny butterflies!

Celebrate with Tags: Let’s Celebrate You!

I am so happy that the Rings of Love Designer Series Paper from Sale-A-Bration is still available. (Remember that SAB items are only available while they last!) This happy card celebrates a birthday with the floral Rings of Love print.

Celebrate with Tags | Whether attached to a package or the front of a card, a tag is an easy design element! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

When seen in its 12″ x 12″ format, this print can be a bit overpowering. But reduced to this sweet tag — and surrounded by a dotted Sweet Sorbet card front — it is just enough. The striped Starry Sky piece was actually die cut, but that was way too fussy. Never mind the stitching, a little 1¼” x 2½” panel gives nearly the same effect!

Even with the layered circle element, this is a pretty quick card, and it lends itself to all kinds of variations.

Happier than Happy: Hello There

There are so many things happening in August here — birthdays, back to school, Jingle Jump sessions. barn tours, family reunions — that my intentions to publish posts about last week’s Stamp Review Crew blog hop went by the wayside! Eventually, I will share the details of my two cards.

In the meantime, here is a card inspired by the work of several other stampers — a natural pairing of items from the Happy Forest Friends suite and the Sale-A-Bration Rings of Love Designer Series Paper. I love this coordination!

Happier than Happy | Don't miss the coordination of this bundle with the Happier than Happy and the Sale-A-Bration Rings of Love Designer Series Paper! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The Happier than Happy bear is stamped in Soft Suede ink. Because this set has Distinktive stamps, the shading is built into the image. That is such a cool feature; it’s not that you can’t add additional color and/or shading to a stamped image (or even an inked-up stamp), but this is a great and easy shortcut.

The “hello there” sentiment is from Nature’s Prints. That was about the largest circle I wanted there, and the greeting was perfect for an all-occasion card.

If there’s one word that strikes fear into the hearts of several stampers I know, it is “bow”! This one was tied “up in the air” (not attached to anything) and “on the spool” (not tied from a cut piece of twine). That last part is important because I’m convinced the problem many of us have with bows is that we are working with a piece of twine or ribbon that is simply too short! I think it’s better to trim off and discard a bit of extra length than to be frustrated and have to start over with a new piece. This bow is secured slightly under the edge of the circle with a Glue Dot.

Stamp Review Crew: July-August Sale-A-Bration

Well, hello! It’s the first day of the month, the first Monday of the month — does it get any easier for a Stamp Review Crew blog hop? We have a good lineup today, looking at the Stampin’ Up! July-August 2022 Sale-A-Bration offerings. Do you have a favorite product from this brochure? You’ll probably find that it’s also a favorite of one of the bloggers on the hop today! (Just a reminder: click the banner above to see the entire list of blogs today.)

Just before me in the lineup is Running with Scissors Stamper, the blog of Heidi Baks. Although I haven’t seen her blog yet today, I can say with absolute confidence that her post is fabulous!

As for me, I faced a dilemma: I have several favorite SAB items, but I certainly can’t expect you to stay here forever! So I narrowed it down to my favorite Sale-A-Bration Designer Series Paper, Rings of Love, and the versatile and fun stamp set, Amazing Phrasing. For each project, I took advantage of the flexibility of photopolymer to shape the words to the card stock edges, cut with Basic Borders dies (I’ll have complete details on these hop projects later this week).

My first card is for the birthday of one of my downline. I love the happy colors in this print! I fussy cut two tiny butterflies for the tag tucked under the ribbon. Inside I stamped “To another year around the sun” on two lines.

My other card is for my stepson’s birthday later this month. This was a bit more challenging in to get the curve of the two stamps just right. His card says “Woo Hoo!” inside, reversing the sentiments of my first card.

You probably know there’s more Sale-A-Bration ahead for the rest of August. But hold on a second! From August 2-31, you can choose from 10 additional, great products as your free-with-qualifying-purchase selection(s). These are not products unique to SAB, and you will need to make sure to use the special SAB item numbers in order to get them for free. I will have a link tomorrow to the flyer, as soon as I am sure of my facts!

Thanks for spending time here, and enjoy your next stop on the blog hop, Nikki Spencer’s My Sandbox. Have fun!
