Last day to register for October Jingle Jump!

Today is the deadline to register for the October Jingle Jump — the final one of the season — so it’s now or never!

I don’t remember when or where I first heard the phrase, “Get a jump on your jingle!” but it stuck with me. So for years, I’ve been offering a series of special stamp camps each fall called Jingle Jumps. The purpose? To get you ready for the upcoming holidays with handmade cards.

Here’s how a Jingle Jump works:

  • Register for the session you want (there are two of them scheduled for the weekend of October 21-22) and pay $22 for 10 cards.
  • Bring your own adhesive and scissors. I’ll provide everything else you need to make your cards.
  • When you arrive at my house, choose which of 6 designs you’ll make, for 10 cards total. Make extra cards for $2 each.
  • Find an empty station and begin stamping! Usually, cards will take only about 10 minutes each to complete, but sometimes I get a little carried away with a design.
  • When you’re done with one design, move to another station until your 10 cards are done.
  • Leave with a sense of satisfaction for a time of creativity and fellowship!

To register online, or read all the details, see the Jingle Jump event page.

Knit Together: Scottie

I had wanted to heat emboss Knit Together for months, but waited until I could create a card with a winter feel. The Stamp Review Crew blog hop last week was the perfect opportunity. I tried to recreate a white sweater by stamping with VersaMark and heat embossing with white powder — lots of it!

The effect was just what I envisioned, but it certainly didn’t photograph well!

To ensure complete ink coverage on the Scottie, I used my Stamparatus. It’s such an essential tool for me! This Christmas Scottie bundle is so adorable and, because the coordinating product is a punch, very affordable. Whether you use ribbon/twine for the bow or punch it out of patterned paper, as I did here, this pup is perfectly festive!

The little Merry Christmas panel is cut with a die from Beautiful Trees.

Are you participating in Jingle Jump in two weeks? You’ll be making a simpler version of this card then!

Hello Harvest: Pumpkin

Happy Plaidurday, the first Friday of October! I’ll leave it to others to post flannel shirts, wallpaper, or other plaidelicious salutes to the holiday, but I’ll share the work I do best.

This note card starts with a stenciled plaid created on a 3¼” x 4¾” Very Vanilla panel, cut in half on the diagonal. I used Pool Party for the plaid because it goes so well with the colors of autumn.

Ever since I held the Marvelous Masks class last February, I’ve been using both current and retired masks like crazy. I enjoy the whole process: affixing the cardstock panel with temporary adhesive to the Grid Paper, aligning and securing the mask on top, and gently applying ink over the mask with a Blending Brush. Carefully remove the mask and it’s magical. This is a simple plaid, but of course you can get much more detailed. See all the cards I’ve made with the Artistic Mix Decorative Masks here.

Many years ago, someone gave me a floral arrangement in a ceramic pumpkin. I loved that idea, and then appeared this bundle in the Stampin’ Up! July-December 2022 Mini Catalog! I love everything about this bundle, but I need to get cracking if I’m going to use it all before the end of November.

It looks like there are an awful lot of supplies used on this little card, but that’s thanks to all the Stampin’ Blends. It’s hard for me to only use a few! (I listed Kraft Note Cards & Envelopes in the supply list, but I actually made this using a rogue Crumb Cake note card.)

Knit Together: Hello

Yep, it’s sweater weather in north central Illinois! That’s what I was thinking about when I created this card for the Stamp Review Crew blog hop earlier this week. Of course, this isn’t a sweater, it’s a leaf, but it’s still got an autumn feel:

Knit Together | Beauty of Friendship | Just because background stamps are huge doesn't mean they can't be used in a smaller dose! Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

Unless I’m using the Stamparatus, my usual approach to these big stamps is to apply ink to the stamp, instead of vice versa, and lay the cardstock on the face-up rubber. Over that, I place a piece of scratch paper and rub it to transfer the ink. That’s the way I did it on this leaf from the Leaf Label and Amber Gem Combo Pack. I created three of these leaves at the same time, just in case my plans changed direction.

I chose colors that would coordinate with the beautiful Amber Gems in the pack, but I changed my mind and substituted some vanilla baker’s twine that I frayed. Inside this note card is a birthday greeting from Charming Sentiments.

Stamp Review Crew: Knit Together

We are barely into October and have had our first (light) frost of the season here, so it’s the perfect time to celebrate Knit Together with the Stamp Review Crew. You’re probably not surprised to be hopping with us today, since it’s the first Monday of the month. But watch the calendar: in October we’ll be hopping three times! So join us — an international group of stampers — as we focus on a single stamp set for each hop.

Remember that you can see the list of stampers participating today by clicking the banner above. You’ll only be visiting a few blogs today, so relax and spend some time enjoying the inspiration. You may have come here from the blog of Holly Krautkremer, Rubber Redneck, but it doesn’t really matter where you jump in!

I have always loved background stamps, although when Stampin’ Up! introduced its cutting and embossing machines, my head was turned. Meanwhile, the number of background stamps decreased substantially and background embossing folders increased. But they don’t perform the same functions, so my stamping world is big enough for both!

I’ve created cards for this season and the next. (I’ll be posting the details of my cards later this week.) Here I chose to use Knit Together on this Kraft leaf — a background, but a little one! And I used embossing folders (two of them) for more texture and interest. There are 25 leaves in the Leaf Label & Amber Gem Combo Pack, so I have enough to create a banner with Knit Together as a starting point. Stick with me to see (a) if I follow through with this idea and (b) what the banner will say.

Moving ahead to Christmas, this was my first concept for a hop card: a frosty background using Knit Together embossed in white on Basic White.

Of course, it’s just a little difficult to see, so here’s another view:

As we say, better IRL! Thank you so much for spending time with Heartfelt Inkspiration. Enjoy your visit to Painted Orange, the blog of Charlet Mallett!

Soft Seedlings: Thinking of You

Soft Seedlings is simply a beautiful set, with a gorgeous maple leaf image and lovely sentiments. The sample on page 53 of the July-December 2022 Mini Catalog inspired me to pull out my pack of fairly dry baby wipes to experiment. (I just pour water into the package and let the wipes soak it up, making sure the package is in the sink while this is happening!)

Soft Seedlings | The baby wipe technique is fun to use on a relatively solid image, like this one. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

This technique involves creating a homemade, custom ink pad using drops of ink refills on a folded, damp baby wipe (I use a plastic lid from something like a sour cream tub as a base). The drops of ink should touch each other but not really overlap; you don’t want to create a solid (gross) color. When the creation of the pad is complete, use it as you would an ink pad.

Soft Seedlings | The baby wipe technique is fun to use on a relatively solid image, like this one. Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

When repeating the inking/stamping, move around the “‘pad” so that the colors are unique. This will happen naturally if you don’t totally clean off the stamp each time. Because this particular image is not solid, the colors are more subtle towards the stem.

I created this card using what I thought was a Kraft note card that I had in my stash. When I received my new pack, I was surprised to see that I was actually using something more like Crumb Cake. Where this came from (with matching envelope!), I have no idea. This stamped panel is much more dramatic using the Kraft Note Cards & Envelopes.

Delicate Edges: Happy Birthday

When dies are not part of a bundle (currently or in prior catalogs), it’s easy to overlook them. Today’s card features two of those “orphan” die sets: Delicate Edges (a set of four borders, new in the 2022-2023 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog) and Stitched Greenery (one “piercing” background die). These have different uses, as you can see on this note card:

Delicate Edges | Amazing Year | Stitched Greenery | Use Sponge Daubers to color a strip of card stock, then use a Delicate Edges die for this cool border! | Please click to read more! | Stampin' Up! | HeartfeltInkspiration.com | Debra Burgin

The Stitched Greenery die is huge — large enough to use on the first layer (4″ x 5¼”) of a standard card — and multi-directional. When you run a card stock panel through the Cut & Emboss Machine, you might wonder how you’ll remove the paper — all those piercings hold on pretty tightly! But there are holes on the back of the die where you’ll use a toothpick or some other poking tool to persuade the die to release the paper. Once one corner is free, you can simply peel the paper off the die.

As for this leaf border, I simply covered a strip of Very Vanilla (backed with an Adhesive Sheet) with dots of ink, using Sponge Daubers. It doesn’t look like it will amount to much at that point, but I remind myself (and others) that it’s all about context. After the strip is die-cut with the leaf border, it is transformed; every time you do this, it will be different!

I kept the sentiment simple so attention stays on the background and the border.

Hello Harvest: Hello

Do you recognize this leaf image from Hello Harvest? I don’t have anything against pumpkins (as you’ll see coming up), but I love the way these unexpected colors give a fresh look to the season. Another stamper provided the color inspiration for this card, but I did not save her card — I’m sorry!

Are you worried about getting the leaves evenly spaced? There are two answers to that question: (a) relax and don’t worry about it, or (b) use a clear quilting ruler. Really, I don’t strive for absolute perfection, because I simply cannot attain it. More important to me is that I put the finished card in the mail to someone who needs it.

I love working with note cards as a change and a challenge. A few elements go a long way on this smaller “footprint.”
