You might be surprised there’s no bird on this card, but aren’t these flowers beautiful, and the sentiment lovely?
This June camp card was pretty simple — primarily because I had the die-cut panel already prepared for the stampers! It’s not difficult to cut the Stitched Lace die, but it takes a bit of time and produces lots of tiny pieces — more than I wanted to leave in my hostesses’ dining rooms!
We colored the flowers with Stampin’ Blends, a simple blending of light and dark Flirty Flamingo. Note that the flowers were not stamped in Memento ink, which is what is recommended. Classic ink works very well, as long as you are not doing repetitive blending over the stamped lines. Here is my standard approach to coloring a flower:
- Color all over with lightest color, leaving some areas uncolored.
- Color the “throat” of flower with darker color, sweeping color out from center about 1/3 of the way into the petal.
- Blend darker color into lighter color out from center of flower about 2/3 of the way into the petal.
We achieved the Mint Macaron edge on the sentiment oval by holding the oval perpendicular to the ink pad and very gently pressing the edge into the pad, then rotating the oval around. I call this “walking the edge,” and it’s excellent for getting the barest bit of color. Sponging is usually more color on the surface of the die cut than I want, but this defines the edge perfectly.
