Butterflies & Flowers: Happy Birthday #1

I had so much fun at the Marvelous Masks class a few weeks ago. I may have been overly ambitious with the projects, as we could have used an extra hour. But we started with the basics, which included the simply panel on this card using the “tile” mask:

I love the act of brushing ink through the mask (really, a stencil). I don’t look for perfection with this technique, embracing a vintage or “boho” effect. A variation on this exercise was creating an ombré effect, gradually shading from light at the top to dark at the bottom, which was equally pretty!

Participants chose their own ink color (and refill); all I requested was that they use something suitable for flowers. I kept the neutrals consistent, using Basic Gray and Smoky Slate — even with a variety of colors, everyone’s results were stunning!

I will continue to share the projects from this class over the next several weeks; I hope you’ll follow along!
