Poinsettia JOY

This was the first card I designed for November’s Holiday Stamp-a-Stack to Go. Because participants were not required to have the featured stamp set, the retiring Wrapped in Christmas, if I could create a card just with die cuts, so much the better. Of course, this card took some time for me to prep! But I love the way it turned out and have been working on other projects using just red and white.

If you haven’t seen the retiring Plush Poinsettia Specialty Paper in real life, well, it is quite beautiful. The pattern is flocked and the background is frosted, heavy vellum. It reminds me of a burnout fabric. Get it if you can!

I didn’t want to overwhelm the card with too much, so I used a pattern from the retiring ‘Tis the Season DSP (the same piece I used for my NOEL pleated rosette garland) to balance it. Participants got a card kit with one piece of the poinsettia pattern and one of holly. I’m saving scraps from the remaining pattern (all I have left) for something special coming up.

It may be difficult to see, but these scalloped circles from the Tasteful Labels dies have some embossed detail just inside the edge. So pretty! I think it makes these letters a little less severe. This is why I look really closely at new die sets. Occasionally — as in this case — I may not even buy the bundle if the stamp set isn’t something I love or need but the dies are interesting.
