As it turned out, the day after Christmas was not as slow as I had expected; we took our grandson down to church to help with leaf cleanup. We spent a couple hours raking and carrying bins of leaves down the hill, where Grandpa and/or Peter manned the burn pile. This was after a similar effort earlier in the week. I tallied over forty 30-gallon bins for the two days. It was dirty, stinky work, but we mostly finished, and that felt great. Someone under age 10 fell asleep on the way home.
On Friday morning I knew that, once again, I had a cold. So it was a tea-drinking, nose-blowing, book-reading, nap-taking, movie-watching kind of weekend in front of the fire.
I am so grateful to have a gas fireplace in this house — if you have been here, you know that it is double-sided, open to both the living room and family room. We almost always have it on in the evening. There’s another one downstairs, which is both pleasant and essential when working down there in the winter. This basement is not really cold, but there can be a chill. OK, I just like the atmosphere!
In December we haven’t had typically cold weather or much snow, but I’m sure it will come. Meanwhile, I can dream about the scene on this Jingle Jump card, another example of a transitional card — one that is appropriate for Christmas as well as for winter birthdays.
After masking the cabin, I lightly sponged the sky. And it’s a little hard to see, but I smeared some Snowfall Accents Puff Paint (retired and no longer available) on the lawn in front of the cabin and on the roof.
