Forever Lovely: Rooted in Nature

Have you experimented with saturating your Stampin’ Up! card stock with water before you use an embossing die on it? (You can read about this technique here.) I continue to be so pleased with the results and enjoy showing them off when stampers are here. At one point, someone thought she remembered other embossing dies, perhaps also leaves … ?

So the search commenced. Because my die envelopes are in alphabetical order, I only needed to look through about half of them before finding Nature’s Roots, the coordinating die to the Rooted in Nature stamp set.

In this set of dies, the leaves are first cut with an outline die; it could be that you would be cutting around a stamped image. I used an Aqua Painter to brush water on both sides of the die cut, then ran the die cut through with the embossing die. Magic.

This October camp card was the result of the experimentation. Take a closer look to see just how pronounced the embossing is:

I needed to add some sparkle to this card, so we used a couple inches of 1/4″ Copper Trim, left one end alone so it could be adhered with a Mini Glue Dot, and stretched the rest across its width. It gave something of the feeling of a skeleton leaf; those were stamped inside the card in the same colors as the die-cut leaves on the front.

More bling? Of course! The final touch was a few Holiday Rhinestone Basic Jewels. These are so beautiful — in fact, it was a customer who tipped me off to this sleeper product on page 58 — and perfect for fall and winter cards.
