I’m pretty sure the spotlight technique was one of the first special effects I learned when I began seriously stamping some 16 years ago. Here’s how it works:
- Stamp a line image on card stock.
- Stamp image again on another piece of same or different card stock.
- Color second image (you’ll only be using a portion of it).
- Punch out or die cut portion of colored image.
- Mat punched image in coordinating card stock.
- Adhere colored, matted image over plain image, matching image’s lines.
To illustrate, here’s a camp card from nearly 10 years ago:
I still love the way this looks! Back then, we were coloring with Watercolor Crayons, and when they were retired I thought I’d never be able to color again. Little did I know what was ahead!
I was intrigued with a spotlight variation from Kelly Kent and decided to use it for this May camp card. The technique is the same, but the area that’s colored is much more predominant. Using the Stamparatus, it was a cinch to create two identical panels. One was left uncolored and flat adhered to the card base; the other was colored and die cut.
I can hardly wait to use this on images from the upcoming 2019 Holiday catalog!
