Did you know that October is Clergy Appreciation Month? I’ve sent a card to the minister of our church, but this month it’s also worth acknowledging those people who help keep all kinds of religious and service organizations running.
I’m thankful for those who volunteer.
I have no patience for people who complain that there’s nothing to do in their community. Our newspaper regularly has notices of volunteer opportunities and training for those who are new to the job. Being aware of the needs is as simple as finding the organization whose focus and passion you share — then calling and asking, “How can I help?”
I’m grateful that my mother modeled volunteerism to us. When she moved “back north” from her retirement home, I had a folder with a variety of opportunities for her. She immediately jumped in and bloomed where she had been planted.
This camp card from September reminded me of Mom’s work with the Lighted Way in LaSalle, Illinois.
