Stamp Review Crew: Swirly Bird

I was shocked to see that it’s been over four months since I’ve participated in a Stamp Review Crew blog hop!  I needed to put this activity to the side last fall to concentrate on other business efforts.  Well, it’s a new year and I’m ready to hop!

I’ve missed being part of this world-wide group of stampers who come together twice a month to present ideas on a single stamp set each time.  Once in a while there is an exception to the “one set” rule, as you’ll see later this month.  I hope you enjoyed Kelly’s creativity at My Papercraft Journey!  (You can find the complete list of participants for this hop by clicking the banner, above.)

Swirly Bird is a set I used for a half-day stamping event back in July.  After having seen it demonstrated at OnStage in Salt Lake City in April, I was hooked.  Apparently I’m in good company, as it has been the most popular set in the Stampin’ Up! 2016-2017 Annual Catalog!

My inspiration for this card was something I’m sure I saw on the cover of Martha Stewart’s Weddings magazine many, many years ago.  I don’t know if it was a wall piece or a cake, but it was completely covered with flowers.  And so I started stamping.  And punching.  Over and over.

There are about 70 small flowers in Blushing Bride, Flirty Flamingo, and Watermelon Wonder adhered to a die-cut base.  Instead of using the Swirly Scribbles Thinlits Dies, I punched these out with a 1/2″ Circle Punch — so much faster and good enough.  A spattering of Wink of Stella and some tiny pearls complete the big heart.

I embossed a piece of vellum with the Softly Falling folder, then adhered that to the Smoky Slate card base.  The sentiment is from a new set this week, Sealed with Love.

Thanks so much for taking a look at my creation — now you’re on your way to Tiddbits from Dawn to see what she has to show you!
