Candy cane bag topper

Debra Burgin Gift bag topperThis was the make and take project for the Heartfelt Inkspiration team meeting on Monday.  A few of us attended the Stampin’ Up! regional event in Lansing, Michigan, last month and saw this idea demonstrated.  I had to try it!

The concept is just a card with a slit in the top slipped over the handles of a gift bag.  We cut the slit a little deeper using the Stampin’ Trimmer.  (That “cut anywhere” feature works beautifully for this.)  We fastened a paperclip to the top of the bag to hold it together.  Some knotted a bit of ribbon around the clip and used it as a decorative element on the top of the card.

And inside the bag?  Fabulous Candy Cane Popcorn (recipe HERE).  I popped 1/2 cup of corn kernels and used a 5-ounce package of 12 candy canes.  My festive and yummy result looked like this:

Paper:  Real Red, Snow Festival Designer Series Paper*, Whisper White, Gumball Green

Other:  Big Shot, Labels Collection Framelits, Holiday Collection Framelits*, Perfect Polka Dots Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, 1/4″ Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon (Whisper White, Real Red), Stampin’ Dimensionals
