An old-fashioned solar eclipse

I was not fortunate to be in the viewing area for yesterday’s total solar eclipse.  (If I travel to the southern part of the state in August of 2017, I’ll get to see one then.  And I’ll look up some fellow stampers while I’m there.)

However, a few decades ago we saw one from the back yard of our childhood home, about 50 miles from where I live now.  I can’t remember where we got the instructions to make our highly sophisticated scientific viewing devices (it was summer, so maybe it was in the local paper).  But this picture — of me, our neighbor and my younger sister — remains a classic in my family:
