Scrappin’ Saturday — Oak Mound Cemetery

Debra Burgin Oak Mound CemeteryDo you think it is strange to create a layout for a cemetery?  Not if it’s a big part of your family, and it is ours.

This afternoon we’ll be participating in our second Oak Mound Cemetery Walk.  Eight “actors” (including DH and myself) will portray people who are buried there.  DH and a friend — and some others who are portraying family members — have spent a lot of time researching and writing the scripts.  It’s a beautiful weekend for this event, and we expect a hundred or so people to attend.  Refreshments will follow at the country church that DH grew up in and still belongs to.

It’s not at all creepy to do this.  (OK, we’re not doing it at night, which might be creepy!)  It’s really interesting to hear the stories and very honoring.

If you have a cemetery walk in your area this autumn, I urge you to go!

Very interesting! Have never heard of a cemetery walk. We do have something called Ghostwalk. It’s put on by our local ballet theatre, and takes place downtown the couple of weekends before Halloween. A guide takes groups of 15 or so to a room in one of the downtown buildings to hear ghost stories written by local residents. Will have to see if anyone around here does a cemetery walk.

  2. I have to admit, I thought it was a weird title, but it totally makes sense now! I love the colors–very subtle and appropriate..neat work!

  3. Love how simple the page is very elegant. I don’t think it is weird. I actually take pictures of headstones since I am into Genealogy great way to document actual facts!

Wow, sounds like fun! Is the MDS background the new Timeless download?

I had never heard of a cemetery walk either, but this does sound kind of interesting! I could never be one of the actors, but I would enjoy learning about people’s lives. Cool page and thanks for the lesson!
