A bloomin' thank you

Last week we took an overnight trip down to west-central Illinois to visit friends of ours who had moved out of the area a few years ago.  We met for lunch, did a little sightseeing in Springfield, then followed them to their home about 45 minutes away, in the middle of … nowhere.

My friend has the same first and middle name as mine (testament to the fact that we are the same age), but that’s about where the similarities end.  She has a beautiful home — she has an eye for selecting and putting furnishings together that amazes me.  I have seen her spaces rearranged often enough to know that she just has a knack for it.  If I needed a new lamp, she’d be the person I’d want shopping with me!  In contrast, our home looks, well, lived in and comfortable — you know, like an old pair of slippers!  You’ll never see it on a house walk or in a magazine!

So I wanted to make a TY card that looked like her.  She loves hydrangeas and was peeved by the fact that her new plants were eaten this spring.

The color of the card is nearly exactly the color of my newer bathroom towels, from WalMart.  Now I love Certainly Celery and Old Olive (and I enjoyed using Kiwi Kiss a few years ago), but this In Color, Pear Pizzazz, is fabulous!

But what I don’t have yet is any of the In Color ink, so I couldn’t use Concord Crush to color the flower head.  I relied on my Eggplant Envy card stock and crayon.  Wow, is that box of crayons empty looking!  Did you know that the new catalog offers New Color Kits for markers, crayons and Pastels so that you don’t have to buy a complete new set?  I love this idea!

Because it would be difficult to color the flower centers with a lighter color on top of the Eggplant, I first colored each one with the Signo Gel Pen, then used a Blender Pen to add the accent of Daffodil Delight.

Stamps:  Because I Care (new Level 1 hostess)

Ink:  StazOn Jet Black, Basic Black, Daffodil Delight (new)

Paper:  Pear Pizzazz (new), Eggplant Envy, Watercolor Paper, Daffodil Delight (new)

Other:  Aqua Painter and Watercolor Wonder Crayons, Signo Gel Pen, Blender Pen, Finial Press Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Modern Label Extra-Large Punch, Scallop Trim Border Punch, Circle Ice Rhinestone Brad (Green), 1/8″ Taffeta Ribbon (new Daffodil Delight), Stampin’ Dimensionals
