Working with stone tiles

Here’s another project from the recent Stampin’ Addicts’ Birthday blog hop.  A long time ago my stampers created a simple decorative tile, using StazOn on a “tumbled” tile.  Very simple, very dramatic.

The floral tile was stamped on a similar Travertine tile, but I used the type that has been polished.  Note that the tile at right is very rough; with the right image, this can be appealing.  I wanted something a little more refined for this project.  The specific product is “4” x 4″ Chiaro Travertine Filled & Honed” stone tile, found at Lowe’s.

I stamped in the Inspired by Nature image in Craft ink, masked the image, stamped the En Français image in StazOn ink, then added a lot of color with more Craft ink, applied with small sponge applicators.  Not confident that the ink would really dry without help, I baked the tile in a 350° oven for an hour (probably too long, but I lost track of time).  A little embellishment and done!  Oh, I adhered a square of chipboard on the back to hide the ribbon ends.

I think this is a great gift, and very easy to do — try it!

Stamp:  Inspired by Nature, En Français
