The Linen Sisters throw a shower

Several months ago a few women at church started talking about how to support our local branch of Love INC (Love in the Name of Christ).  Love INC is a clearinghouse organization; when someone calls for help, their needs are assessed and met through other agencies, such as churches and the Salvation Army.  Love INC makes it easier to get help (just one call!), and the involvement of churches creates relationships that go deeper than a handout.

Fast forward to this past Sunday, when our group held a shower to stock our Linen Closet.  A local reporter sat in on our meeting last week and wrote a terrific article about our efforts.  We had an amazing afternoon — two hours of people

  • bringing kitchen, bath, and bed linens to us (someone stopped me in the parking lot before I could even get inside!)
  • making potpourri bags to be included with linens that are delivered
  • stamping cards that will be enclosed in the linens package
  • learning how to create braided rugs from linens deemed too damaged to pass on
  • eating!

I was in charge of the treats and designing one of two cards for newbie stampers.  That’s it, above.  Each card was different, but all were beautiful — made more so because the stampers wrote a personal note inside.

We now have more linens than we have room to store and a healthy account balance for future needs.  And we have a lot of work to do!

Stamps:  Inspired by Nature, All Holidays, Itty Bitty Backgrounds

Ink:  Rose Red, Sahara Sand, various Stampin’ Write Markers

Paper:  Old Olive, Regal Rose, Whisper White, Certainly Celery

Other:  Punches (Small Oval, Large Oval, Eyelet Border), Stampin’ Dimensionals

  1. What a wonderful new ministry Debra! Well done! Such a great article in the Chronicle too.

I just love this idea for helping. Your cards certainly add a personal touch and awareness for the giver as well as the receiver. I recently heard someone speak about the desire for “a consciousness of giving.” I’ve been thinking about that.

I really like this card! The colors, stamp set and punches are a great combo! dot
